Removal Forum???

Recommended Posts

:confused2: This is a place for people considering removal options now or in the future, right? Wheather it's complete removal or revision surgery?

For people to talk to others who've had their bands removed for various reasons, right?

I want to talk freely without offending the happy banders, but I'm afraid this is the wrong forum.

It sounds like this is exactly the right place for you if you've had your band removed or are considering removal, regardless of the reasons why.

I hope you find the support you are looking for here.

Thank god because after my luck in another thread I was seriously confused.

I had people who weren't considering removal or revision just shooting down my desire to learn more about my options.

I think I know the thread you're referring to, and that original post was just a little too bizarre for any of us to get our minds around. It didn't seem like the original poster was really for real.

Anyway, put your situation out there, and see what kind of response you get. Good luck. Sorry I probably won't be contributing much to the conversation since I'm a "happy bandster" but I do understand that there are situations where the lapband procedure just isn't the right fit.

Cheers!

I understand, I think I was a little to relieved to find the forum and posted too enthusiastically in the wrong thread to compound the problem. I think you're right, about the original poster. I'm sorry I learned the hard way I have to becareful where I post. And try to be as clear as I can when I post anything.

W, don't stress too much about it. I read your earlier posts. It's always difficult to communicate your thoughts and feelings in cyberspace. You are right in that you have to word things carefully in trying to accurately expressing your thoughts. It's hard and I've come across in ways that I didn't intend before. Happens to everyone.

Just some thoughts from me based on what I've read from you so far. I know that I don't know you and I'm not judging or trying to fix things for you. I'm also not banded, just in the beginning stages of looking into it. I'm jumping on because I saw it was you who started the thread.

In all honesty, please get some counseling. You need some help to get your thoughts in order. You have been through so much in such a short amount of time that it's probably hard for you to even think sometimes. Each thing is so huge one at a time, I can't imagine all of that at one time.

Something that my pastor likes to advise people about and I completely agree with him.

Don't make any big decisions for a year. Meaning life-changing kinds of things. Examples would be don't purge the house of their things, or sell the house and move, that kind of thing. Maybe in your case it means a revision surgery waiting for a bit.

What about something to help you focus. Maybe make it your band or school or just day to day moments or ...

Example: "okay, I'm awake this morning, that's good. Now it's time to get up and shower. Now it's time to get dressed. Now it's time to fix a simple, healthy Breakfast and eat it. Now it's time to..." You get the idea. It sounds simplistic and maybe even silly but if it works then who cares! :rolleyes2:

Do know that your healing, mentally, emotionally and physically, is going to take some time. There are different stages of grief and no one stage is the same for everyone. Some stages take longer to work out than others.

I didn't mean to make this so long. I talk too much even in cyberspace! I just felt the need to post to you and try to help. I do want to apologize if I over-stepped.

Try to take care and best wishes to you.

wjbluv- I just got finished reading that other thread... yikes what a mess.

Mostly I want to say that if you are unfilled and you are still in pain, you need to find time (between school and work) to see your doctor and demand your doctor find out what is wrong. An unfilled band should be mostly ineffective. You should not be on a mushy/slimfast diet with an empty band.

I hope you are able to get some relief one way or another.

Hey there, kiddo. I'm usually a 'shoot from the hip' 'suck-it-up-and-move-on' type of poster. But not this time.

I honestly cannot imagine what state of mind I would be in if I were to go through what you did. To lose so many important people in your life all in such a short time? Your mind must be a non-stop swirl! The grief alone had to have been heart-stoppingly devastating.

I want to congratulate you for not giving up on life and for forging ahead through what had to have been (and I'm sure still is) absolutely blinding emotional pain. I'm sure that having band complications of any sort must be exacerbated a hundred-fold, as a result. I do hope that getting the band removed, if that's what you wish, at least alleviates the painful physical symptoms so that you are able to focus on healing your wounded heart and mind.

You have shown tremendous courage and strength in dealing with your losses. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you move ahead and are slowly able to put the grief behind you.

If you decide to keep the band and need to whine and moan about the problems associated with it, you feel free to do so. We'll stick by you... we want you to be happy and healthy and to be able to get to the point where life is once again enjoyable.

Hang in there, girl. You're going to win this battle!

I highly recommend you seek a local "survivor of suicide" group. I'm sure you are in a lot of pain, you might be directing your emotional pain towards your band, since both the traumatic events happened within one month of each other.

Depression does manifest itself into physical pain. Please look for a local support group. While the forum can be a big help for lots of people, I don't think it's what you need. You need a group of people that understand the type of loss you have experienced.

Concentrate on that first and your band second.

Good Luck

I would say this is the right place for removal or considering removal. I might go to the complications forum for revisions. Just MHO though. Good luck!

What exactly are your questions about removal? If you know that is what you want, you can only speak to a surgeon about it. If you want options, are you thinking of another weight-loss procedure such a gastric bypass?

Thanks for all the support, and yes it has been hard. I am on cymbalta and been in couseling since the sucide and the other deaths. It's been a full year of counseling so don't worry about my mental health, thats undercontrol. But...No amount of counseling can get ride of how lonely it is after everything like that.

Being in such a small town there is nothing within 100 miles as a banding suport group. I know some get VGB after or gastric bypass.

Has anyone had that done? and if not has anyone been successful after a full removal and no revision?

It seems people in this forum keep getting told that band removal is an absolute death sentance. Shouldn't this be a place for those to be supported?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?
