Self induced vomiting

Recommended Posts

I met a couple who had lap band surgery 4 years ago. They were telling me that when they ate something that didn't sit well, they would make themselves vomit, they called it "rebooting". Personally, I don't like to vomit on any occasion and would never do this. Is this a common practice?

Sounds like an eating disorder to me. The lapband is supposed to be the tool to a healthier lifestyle, not one of purging. My guess is this is NOT a common practice among bandsters. I know I don't do that.

I agree with citygirl, that does not sound normal. I'll do ANYTHING to avoid throwing up. I haven't PBd yet either, so I'm not sure what that's like, but I'm not looking to find out!

OMG that sounds like a horrible idea. I'm terrified of band slipping, I can't imagine vomiting any more than is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I know people who do it, but it's a very bad idea. PBing and the gag reflux are different things.

Yeah, making yourself vommit seems like a horrible idea! I am concerned about band slippage too so my goal is to not vommit at all, making yourself do it, seemingly pretty regularly doesn't seem like healthly stewardship of the band either!

I agree 100%. When they told me that I just kept smiling and thought to myself how discusting that is. I have experienced having food sit on top of the opening. I have found if I relax and wait it will go down. Both time that it happened, I forgot to chew enough. Now, I'm so afraid of vomiting that I am obsessed with chewing my food into mush in my mouth.
