Was there something in the water in Aug of '07?

This board in particular gets me and keeps me going - I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I LOVE you guys!!

I do wonder - how many of us got the new AP band? Did anyone get a different band and what's the difference in loss? I know my doc mentioned that they were seeing some big differences in rate of loss from it, possibly because we were starting out with a small fill right at surgery time. Did anyone still go through "bandster h*ll" or were you able to lose straight off? I would say for myself that I really haven't been through any BH, although I've been slower lately, mostly from my own doing with food choices and exercise levels.

Are we all AP bandsters?

Pizzi, awwww..... we love you too!!!! And best of luck out in California. I know you will come back with a job offer!!!!

Regarding the AP band, I was wondering that very same thing myself.

I believe the band was released for general use in June or July of last year. I remember this because I wanted the AP Band, but it was not available in Mexico at the time. I considered having my surgery done in the US so that I could get this new band, but in the end decided that I didn't want to pay an extra several thousand dollars to have it. So I decided to move forward with the surgery in Mexico, and I have the Inamed 9.75 cm, 4 cc Band.

That said, I am not one of the biggest losers around here. As you can see, several of our fellow Crazy Ates are in the 90's or well into the 100's, and maybe this is due (in part) to the new band. After all, faster weight loss was one of the selling points of the AP Band when they introduced it.

I don't have any big numbers to report, except that I've lost 87% of my excess weight in six months. I learn something new EVERY day, and band life just gets easier and easier as time goes by...

I think that is a HUGE number! Sure I have lost 80 pounds, but in percentages you are 7% ahead of me!! You have a great attitude and are really looking at it in the right frame of mind. You are almost there!! Congrats!

Well folks, I have lost the least of anyone posting on this string, but I am happy. I HAVE LOST. I also, do not know what band I have and I am completely empty due to a dialation of the pouch last November. But, I have not gained any back. This site keeps me going. I do not post often, but read every day and get great inspiration and motivation from reading others posts. I am due to go to see Dr. Smith today to see how the pouch is doing and see if he can give me a fill to get back on track and start losing again. The Crazy Eights are doing great......

Hang in there everyone......

Everyone is doing great! It will take some of us longer to get to goal than others, but in looking back through the board archives, I can see that most people who are focused, diligent, and who do what they need to do, all manage to get to goal sooner or later.

Also, while our rate of weight loss can be influenced by diet and exercise, it is still not completely within our control. Let's face it, some people just have faster metabolisms than others.

Another thing to consider when comparing your numbers to others is that we are not always comparing apples to apples. Some posters are folding their pre-surgery weight loss into their overall total, which is fair and reasonable, but different from what some of other posters are doing.

Lessnless, you started out with a much lower BMI than a lot of us, so you are way ahead of the game. Good job ! BTW, I owe you a PM which I will get to shortly.

Ok, gotta update here and share the news. If you will look at my ticker down below, I HIT THE CENTURY MARK THIS MORNING! 100 lbs gone! I can't believe it. I just keep having to almost pinch myself to realize it's true.

Thanks for all the great encouragement you have all been. I truly think having this forum here makes it so much easier to do this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
