I was banded on 4/22 and went bowling on May 1st. So, eight days later. I will admit that I took it a little easier than normal and only bowled one game. It felt great to do something normal again. Last night I went cosmic bowling and bowled three regular games and one lightening game. While I didn't feel it then, today my right abdominal muscles keep having spasms. So, my advice would be....... if your doc approves of course....... is to bowl one game at a time and stop for a little bit to see how you feel. Starting off slow is the key. It was probably the lightening round that did me in. But again, I had fun. Next week I will only bowl three regular games and skip the lightening round.

Good luck with your band. Please keep in touch. I love fellow bowlers. Email me anytime.

Kim

ouch....reading some of these posts is making me wince....but I acknowledge that I am a big chicken when it comes to pain. Remember that the first 4 - 6 weeks are the time for the lap band to heal and sit comfortably in your body so strenuous exercise may hamper this. The difficulty with bowling or any kind of strenuous activity is that the pain may not hit you till the next day. Just my thoughts.

heh I would have to say bowling a week out from surgery would be a bad thing. You just had your stomach and muscles cut open in various spots and they need to heal. The bending and stooping in bowling wont be good for you at all.

Best thing you can do is call your surgeon and find out when he thinks it will be a good idea for you to start that up again.

I wasn't even allowed to do the eliptical machine for six weeks after surgery and could do no weight lifting. I could walk, and that was it. I can't imagine bowling. Ouch. If you are going to be so careful about what you eat because you don't want to do any damage to the band and port that way, why risk damaging something by overusing muscles that were damaged during surgery?

I jog/walk 3-5 days a week, weight train 2x per week and I am going bowling this weekend. If I haven't felt pain from the crunch my personal trainer puts on me I am sure that I can go bowling and I am 2 weeks post op.

I think that what you can do is totally different for each person. Consult your doctor... When you do make sure to tell him everything like I can walk 3 miles and not experience pain etc.. That will give him a feel for your healing capabilities and your tolerance to exercise.

I went bowling 4 weeks post op, tookm it easy and was ok. My doctor told me not to try it until then. Si made it back for my last week of league.

I had pulling and disomfort on my left side up to 6 weeks post op. Not sure if alot of it was from a rather large hernia repair, but think that added to my discomfort and recovery. Today, 7 weeks post op. I feel great. Walking up to 3 miles per day 5X a week and will start some exercises for those muscles that are so out of shape. Thinking about joining the YMCA.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
