Hello everyone who reads this,

I am having lap band surgery on May 6th 2008 and i am a bit scared, it'd the fear of the unknown i think. I am 114kgs BMI 41.1.

I was just wondering can anyone tell me what it's like after, are you in much pain, after as well as after about a week? Did you go on a liquid diet before surgery, if so how did you get on, i was told 2 weeks before. How long does operation take?

Is there much scarring? Would love to hear from anyone, and if possible would love to have e mail buddy's who have had this op or anyone in the same position as me look forward to hearing from you all x x

Hi! Im getting the band April 4. I live in GA but I am going to Monterrey Mexico To have Dr. Rumbaut do it. My sister and I are going to get the proceedure done together. Im a bit nervous but very excited to. My Dr says with my BMI (which is 38) I will have to be on Clear Liquids for only 3 days prior to my surgery. They also said the surgery itself will only take 45 minutes or so. If I remeber correctly. I have been reading alot of info on this and the more I read the more compfortable I am getting. There is a befor and after pix section here on this web site that you can see a ladys belly and the scars are minimal. Hope all goes well for us. Lets keep in touch.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
