Calories, Fats or both?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm starting my pre-op diet. Wow...this is rough. I never realized how much I needed food.

We went grocery shopping last night, talk about torture.

I'm very focused on low calorie food with low fat content, keeping under 1200 calories a day.

Progressive Soups are low calorie and low fat, and ease my cravings. Does anyone else eat these?

Thanks much.

You will get more food if you eat lower fat but don't go tooooooo low-fat or you won't feel satisfied and your body won't be able to absorb fat-soluble Vitamins like A and D.

I don't love canned Soup but I make my own vegetable Soup (loosely based off that cabbage soup fad diet of the 90s, which tastes good although it's not enough to sustain an adult for too long.) Anyway, soup gives a good feeling of satiety and helps you to be satisfied eating less overall. At least that's how it's supposed to work...I've lost a piddly 8 pounds and my body is already shrieking "feed me!" LOL.

The way things worked out for me, I got my surgery date on valentines day 08. My date was this past monday, the 25th.

I then started to do a full liquid diet. It was rough...really rough.

I'm a week (almost) post-op, and tomorrow I start a pureed food Diet.

Cant wait for some beef...

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink fatty livers so low-fat is very important. Clear Soups are lower in fat than creamed soups. One gram of fat has 9 calories. One gram of Protein or a carb has 4 calories. One gram of alcohol has 7 calories. Try entering your food into FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or another site to help you keep track.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
