Aetna approved!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was originally banded in December 04 and my insurance company at the time, Pacificare covered the surgery. Recently because of a horrid stomach virus, my band slipped  . My new insurance company, Aetna EPO approved the removal and replacement last Friday and surgery is set for this Thursday March 6th.

Add me to your prayers guys. I am hoping this surgery is a breeze like my last one

Good luck to everyone and their insurance companies!!!

so, since you had your first band 4 years ago, you must have been really pleased with it to be going through it again. How did you know the band slipped? OH, and I will definitely pray for you. My band is scheduled for 3/14. So I need prayer too.

I had been sick for some time with various illness, URI, bronchitis and then a horrid stomach virus for days. I kept coughing at night and vomiting. Couldnt keep anything down...lost 18 pounds (that was nice but bad). I called my band doc and told them my symptoms and he said the night coughing and vomiting sounded like a slip so he sent me right in for a barium swallow....confirmed it had slipped. He said it wasnt a "Really bad" slip but it moved enough and in such a position that it would have to be surgically removed and replaced.

I am very happy with the lap band. I miss being filled. I hate being able to eat like before

I will def keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery :( You will do GREAT!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
