Hi.

As the title says I got my band on Wednesday. It was done by Dr. Kwon in NY. I haven't had anything since but Water and some tea. And thanks be to God that I have not been hungry at all. Dr. Kwon gave me a large band and put 4 cc's in it. Not sure what is keeping me from being hungry but I am very pleased that I'm not. First post op is on Monday and then I can start Protein Shakes for two weeks. Then it is mushy stuff for 2 weeks and then back to solid food. Dr. Kwon's regimen seems to be more restrictive than what I see other's are eating but I intend to follow docs orders.

The day of the banding I had a lot of pressure in my chest from the band and the gas and soreness from the incisions which have all diminshed each day since.

I lost 27 lbs. before the surgery and can only imagine what I'm losing now without food. I feel great and am looking forward to feeling even better.

Hi jbhband! Congrats on your surgery! I'm glad you are feeling well. Your experience sounds similar to mine. The first week after my surgery, I felt a lot of pressure in my chest. I don't believe mine was gas. I think I was just very swollen on the inside and drinking created pressure. Once my swelling went down, the pressure in my chest stopped. I also was not hungry for a long time. It was probably at least 4 weeks before I began feeling hungry. Just count yourself lucky. Some bandsters are hungry immediately which makes post-op diet really tough. Hopefully you will continue not being hungry for a while.

Good luck to you and nice to meet you!

Hi, I was also banded on Wednesday. Everyday I am feeling better and better! I have not had any hunger also. I am on a full liquid diet including protien drinks and pureed Soups. I am eating VERY SLOWLY because I had a bad reaction to the pain meds while in the hospital and I could not keep anything down. I am fine since I have been home and only took tylenol for the pain.

Good luck with your weight loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
