Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

I seem to prefer the smoothie option or Soup because I can get it down without feeling uncomfortable. I am able to get my calories, usually Protein and feel satisfied all in one. Thereby, DRINKING my calories. I know I shouldn't, but you're right, it's a convenience. I~C

Your post reminded me of something my nutrtionist said during my eval. She said to make sure to eat solids, even though it might be hard, because you can get intolerant of regular food or something to that effect. I haven't ever heard that again and I had forgotten about it. So I don't know if that's true or she was just blowin smoke. Also, if you are even slightly dehydrated it will make eating more difficult.

One thought - darned darned darned plateaus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs to all of you...we all need it. Thank you for your friendship and reminding me (even when I don't get online) that you are all here. I love ya'll!!!!!!

Glad you are back! We missed ya!!

Brandy - Sorry about your gym. I finally decided a couple of years ago that I was just wasting my money and I splurged for a really nice treadmill. It was a chunk of change at the time, but it's paid for. No more membership fees, etc. I have a bunch of weights and some videos too. Kind of my own personal gym. It was the best decision for me since I was mostly just using the treadmill anyway. One other thing you might look into is classes at your local college. They have yoga, kick boxing, etc. Of course you have to do a little work because it's a graded thing, but it's certainly cheaper than a personal trainer. I'm taking a P.E. class and weight lifting. The weight class is better than my own personal trainer because he feels so sorry for me and gives me lots of personal attention! LOL! It cost me less than $50 for 16 weeks, twice a week.

Bea - I bought a treadmill once. It ended up being a very expensive clothes rack. I tried to get back on it at the first of the year. I was jogging and the belt broke - I flew off the back...I joined the gym after that. If my fat-a$$ is going to break a machine it won't be mine...LOL

I have pilates tapes at home that have inches of dust on them...I do need to drag them out on weekends (non gym days).

So no workout tonight for me...sleepy time. But I am going in the morning and am going to be sweaty and stinky! Time to burn some fat!!!!

Check it out. I know they have evening classes and my college even has some really early classes.

Oh don't get me wrong, I couldn't even tell you where my videos are at the moment, but I do have them! LOL! I would just rather run. It's faster, it burns cals, and I enjoy it. I have a really short attention span! :tongue2: I do have a couple that are really great. They are the Biggest Loser workouts. One is Cardio Blast or some such thing. It was a really great workout. Notice I said "was". LOL! Now I'm going to be paranoid about my treatmill! Ha! I think I'll have hubby check the belt for me! You wanna hear something really gross? I love to get all sweaty and stinky from my workout. The more I sweat, the more I like it! It makes me feel like I've accomplished something really great, almost like I can feel the pounds melting away! Weird, I know!!

haha Bea that's not weird... I always feel like I have done more if I am dripping wet. Although it's probably very unattractive... good thing I am not looking for a man at the gym lol

I have a treadmill...it sits in the basement collecting dust. I never use it because it's creepy in the basement (not yet finished). Bad investment for me...but maybe someday I'll drag it to another room and make a home gym. I keep asking DH, but he says I won't use it no matter where it sits. Meanie.

Bea- I've never heard of the intolerance thing. I will ask my doctor about it. I am definitely not drinking enough Water, so I'm not at all surprised that dehydration could cause some issues getting food down. I need to have all my food 'lubricated'. I am really going to focus on the water. Baby steps, right? I've been trying all day, but if I drink water then I don't get my coffee....what a dilemma!

Oh...and I like to sweat too. I love walking out of the gym with my shirt all wet and my face is red. I too feel like I've done something good for myself. I know it's gross, but I don't care. LOL

I'm on the Daily Plate. I am listed as Turler. I don't know why, but it keeps taking me to the Livestrong area. I don't think that matters, but I can't seem to figure out how to find any of you.

Help???

Livestrong is the new version as it is sponsored by his site. I think they are trying to steer everything in that direction. I haven't logged into Livestrong yet because I don't want to loose all my other stuff from the old dailyplate.

I think my profile is blocked, I'll see if I can change it.

Good Morning everyone! So yesterday I was the best bandster ever. I am gonna try to keep it up but we will see lol.

I went to my step class and I will tell you those people are super crazy! haha I met the instructor ahead of time and she explained that I shouldn't get discouraged because it was like joining a foreign language class and attending it for the first time. She put me in the back right in the middle. The class is 1 hour long of pure butt kicking... At 1/2 way they stop for a minute to get drinks and such. I made it for 38 minutes then I decided that I had done well and didn't push myself.

I considered it progress for me since I and so uncoordinated lol I didn't want to get frustrated or discouraged. After class I did a mile on the treadmill to do a cool off.

I plan on going back a few more times and doing 1/2 of the class to learn more of the moves and try to get a little more up to speed.

How is everyone else?

Yea Brandy! Step class kicks butt - there is one tonight at the gym but I don't think I'm going to make it in time. I'm going to run and do weights!!! I'm proud of you for getting in there and doing it.

Doing pretty good. I started us an April Avengers "Group" on DailyPlate. I didn't know which Brandy you were - I would have sent you an invite. I made our group private. PM me your name and I'll send you one. I was looking at one I thought may be you but I wasn't sure.

Brandy you can "create a meal" by adding your ingredients...just remember the portion will be for the entire meal...when you eat it you need to divide it out by serving. It saves the meal and you can reuse it as you need to. I've created my Protein Shake and a couple of other things (like cheese grits), so I don't have to always add the separate ingredients.

Hmm I guess I will have to try to pay better attention to what I throw in my recipes... I don't measure when I am cooking :Dancing_biggrin:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
