It sounds like I'm not the only one waiting for that 1st fill....

Well I have alot of reading and catching up to do, back later.........

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if i join this thread.

Blund, I had an incident over the weekend with a piece of grapefruit (which i had no business eating), but my dr. ended removing the 1.5cc that was in my band at the time of surgery. I've been back on liquids since. I am now scheduled for my first fill in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous. The pain from the "stuck" food is something I do not ever want to feel again. I will be extra carefull with every food I try from now on.

I had my first fill today and it took him a bunch of tries to hit my port. He finally had to do an ultrasound because I guess it had shifted a bit. The worst part of it was having to do leg lifts the whole time he was looking. Once he nailed it he had no problem finding it again.

He put in 1cc the first time, then had me drink Water to make sure it would go down OK. I drank probably 4 swallows and had to PB (that's what we call "stuck" food, and the resulting yakking it up). The PB with water seemed just as bad as food PB's. I told my doc I was having a PB, and what it was and he thought it was a pretty neat name for that.

So, we had to go back to have him take some out, He had no problem finding the port again, took out 1cc and re injected ½cc. Then I had no problem drinking a ½ bottle of water.

Just say no to tater tots!

I was told my first fill would be 2cc, then they check me again in 2 weeks and if I haven't begun losing, they give me another 2cc right then. This is cool, because my first 3 months' of fills after surgery are included in my surgeon's fee. I will be watching the callendar to be sure I get my "fill" of fills. Har! Har!

My couple of times PB-ing have brought tears to my eyes, and if I can't un-stick it by pounding on my chest, then I head for the bathroom. I have to say, that the pain has not been unbearable.....yet.

Cant wait for that fill!

I had my 2nd fill yesterday and they say liquids for 2 days but I could tell right away I still didn't have restriction. I still don't feel any different. I must say I have never had any problems with any foods getting stuck, sick, or hurting. I have a small band and currently have only 2.5 cc. I asked for more and they said we want to take it slow. They will only fill it every 2 weeks and a little bit at a time. The Dr said on average it takes 3-5 fills and they have seen some that need 8ccs to get restriction. I hope that is not me, I wish I could have had 2cc with every fill. I have done so good never going over 1000 cal. being hungry and exercising but yesterday I had a major melt down I went to the store and bought dipps ice cream and secretly ate the whole box. ugg I did exercise but felt guilty all day and still today. I was discouraged because I still don't have restriction and I knew I would have to wait another 2 weeks. I am going to do better today.. this is my pattern diet for 6 weeks and then stop not this time. Forgive me bandsters for I have fallen!

Well - I went to have my first fill today. After two nurses and the doctor checking, they discovered my port was flipped. I'm having it corrected on June 6th. This is a setback for me, but is something that must be done for me to move forward. I was so upset at first (bawling actually), and am still disheartened, but I'm going to restart (yes restart - I'd stopped) logging my food, getting my Protein in and eat like I have restriction. I don't want to gain any weight between now and then. I haven't been exercising like I should, but some of us local LBers are getting together a walking group. I'm going to try to focus on moving forward instead of having unfortunate circumstances waylay me.

Leslie2lose, I am sorry that is discouraging. I would be upset too but now your right start watching your calories until you can get it fixed so you dont gain the weight back dont do what I did and eat. lol what do they have to do to fix it? Another surgery?

My port is in my upper left chest area. I'll have to have outpatient surgery, be put to sleep - the whole ordeal (to make sure I am comfortable). My doctor will go in and make another incision, flip the port back over and re-attach it to my chest muscle. I'm told it is a simple procedure and shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. I should be home a few hours later.

Hi, I'm a newbie who just got my lap band on April 22nd. I'm still eating mushies at this time, although I have slipped up a few times while cooking for the kids. I've lost 30 lbs. so far, since I started the pre-op diet and I am scheduled to have my first fill on Monday. The incision where my port is located has not completely healed just yet, so I may not be able to get my fill when I'm suppose to. Has anyone else had trouble with their incision healing in a timely matter?

I was banded on April 21st, went for my first fill a couple days ago and the doc said my incision was healing quite nicely. In fact, it is almost completely healed.

Diva, you have done real well on the weight loss. I've lost 23 lbs since my surgery. I have been eating tuna, chicken and salmon for a couple weeks now.

Hi All -

I was banded on April 29th. I cannot have my first fill until July 29th - 90 days after my surgery. At this point I am on mushies for another few days and then it is on to real food. I have experimented here and there with "other" things, I made sure I chewed them very thoroughly and ate slowly. I have to admit I miss some of my salty Snacks. I do feel full sometimes which is good, so I not sure if I am one of those that has a restriction without any fill or not. Did anyone else feel that way? I was thinking that maybe my stomach just shrink over the past weeks with the limited amounts of food that I have been having.

Dang... that terrible. Did they give you reasoning as to why its flipped? I'd make sure they gave you a fill while they are at it... :crying:

No - We don't know why it flipped. I called and spoke to my doctor about 30 minutes ago about cost, my fill and what may have happened. He said he has been thinking about it all day as well. He hasn't had a port flip in 3 years - they changed ports and he stitches it down solid.

I think it happened the week after my surgery. I was still in "recovery" mode, sleeping on my back. In my sleep I rolled over onto my side - I woke up and said many colorful cursewords and cried in agony. I woke up my husband and he remembers the incident as well. It felt like my muscle was ripping - which now looking back, I think were my stitches being ripped out. I was told by other people banded by him that you would really be sore in that area and to be careful rolling over. I didn't think anything of it at the time - thought it was routine.

I brought it up in my followup appointment after surgery. He mentioned to me today that he remembered that converation. He'd checked me at the time and found nothing unusual.

He assured me I was getting a fill when he does the revision. I better - I'm starving right now...NO RESTRICTION whatsover.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
