I am scheduled for May

Welcome back newly banded and welcome new bandsters!

I have been noticing the stress level too. As a teacher and it being the end of the school year, I actually think I am doubley stressed. I have to make sure my inventory, class supply order, grades are on permanent records, room is cleaned, kids are ready to be done and other mundane things are finished BEFORE I leave for my traveling surgery. Plus, now I have strep throat and have to stay home today because I feel like I am being stabbed over and over in my tonsils. I better be over this before my date. I am going back to bed, I feel totally like crud.

Prayers and best wishes to all you soon to be banded and recently banded!

Feel better Bizzy! I am finishing out the school year too, but on the other end!!! I have two finals today, But after that I'll finally be done with school!!!!

I have to work tonight, I have already informed my boss, via voicemail, about my upcoming surgery, I don't want to tell them what kind of surgery, but being a waitress, I work with a lot of nosey ladies that will want to know.... ahh I don't know what to tell them, I don't want to seem super suspicious by being like, "its personal..." hmmm...

Allison, Thanks for the well wishes. I am still not feeling great but I slept till 1:00 pm today! I do feel a bit better I think the antibotics are starting to kick in.

Good luck on your finals!!!

also, I have only told 2 people at my job that I know I can trust. I told my boss that I was having surgery and when he asked what kind, I simply told him it was personal and would be okay to teach summer school on Monday. He dropped it after that. I haven't made a big deal out of my absence so no one else has either. Just play it low key, it'll be fine. I actually think it's against the law for them to ask what your surgery is due to the new privacy laws.

Congrats on your date Felicia!! Welcome to the May Bandsters!!!

Well, I am feeling much better today. But it is very hard for me to get the 64 oz of liquid in. Plus, I am starting to get hungry for mushies- not allowed until 5-13.

The incisions are feeling great. I can only feel the big port incision, unless I lean against the others (like when I spit out toothpaste).

The house we live in was for sale, and I just found out I have less than a month to move. Since I can't pick anything up, I am a little stressed, but I am taking care of this band!

Hi Allison. If you want to provide your coworkers with some type of stomach surgery, you could say your having your gallbladder removed. I know.. sounds gross, but both are laparoscopic procedures and I've heard lapband is comparable, as far as the surgery pain. I had my gallbladder removed when I was only 25, so you're not too young. This way when you go back to work.. you have the scars to prove it. Now when you start shedding all those pounds... and you will... you're on your own!

I'm kinda wanting mushies too, but I can't have them until 5-15. I am having the exact same experience with the incisions.

For some reason my throat is still hurting where they tubed me. Dunno why. Hope that gets better soon.

Tomorrow, the 12th, is my Band-day! I am very excited!! I would say I am not nervous at all, except.... I have a slight runny nose & mild sore throat. I think it is spring sinus, but I worry about it being a deal breaker. Plus I can't take all my good meds the day before surgery. Well everyone cross your fingers for me that the nose thing does not get any worse. This band is the first true hope I have had that I will actually lose all the weight I need to.

Happy Mothers Day to all that are moms. My boys are the driving force behind me wanting this band. I want to be here and having a good time with them for a long, long time!

Tomorrow is my Bandday!:welldoneclap:

Just checking in..........

I was banded Wednesday: spent the nite in the hospital and have done pretty well I think. Clear Liquids day 1-4, and today started full liquids (for 10 days).

The doctor also repaired a large hiatal hernia while he was in there, and also said I had some enlarged lymph nodes, which he removed for biopsy to be sure nothing wierd was going on there. I'm hoping it was just due to the fact that I had a virus the week before surgery and nothing serious. I'm a little concerned about that.

I've been ambulating as instructed but am concerned about clots. I decided against the filter, which, now I wish I had done. My legs feel a little wierd, but not red, swollen or painful. Maybe I'm just overly worried.

My post pain is mostly from the the removal of the node and hernia repair. The incisions aren't bad at all.

Wish me luck on the biopsy reports. I'm anxious to get back to the office and find out the results.

Good luck to the rest of the May group..........

Mely--congrats on your band! We're sending lots of positive thoughts about the biopsy. My philosophy is--don't worry until you have to--'cause you just may NOT have to!

What do you mean by "you decided against the filter?" What is the filter?

Hey Allison,

I'm facing the same kind of thing at work...nosey women, who happpen to be skinny women as well. :welldoneclap: I only told my boss and manager (both older women, and my boss has had some PS) and one other older lady that I work with that I'm getting the band. a few other people heard I was getting surgury and when they asked me what kind i said it was personal. after that they dropped it and it hasn't been mentioned again. like soemone else said, if you don't make a big deal out of it, no one else will either. if you tell someone your having personal surgery....most people are not going to press you any further. saying your having gallbatter surgery works as well (as someone said) but I don't want to lie about it if i can help it. might lead to a tricky situation later haha. hope your finals went well!!!!!!!

My doctor gives the option of having a vena cava filter inserted as a prevetative measure in regards to clot formation. The filter would "catch" the clots before they reached your heart/lungs.

My rationing for not doing it was that my BMI wasn't that high, and I can easily ambulate and have no risk factors. And am a very compliant person.

Now, I'm wondering if I should have had it done...........

Mel -Congrats on your band and prayers to you as you wait for the results of your test.

Miss Meliss - I am getting over strep throat so I understand your concern. I am thankful for the 2 weeks I have left to wait now. Hopefully I will be well again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
