My doctor also did not give me a pre-op diet. But my research shows that the less fatty the liver, the easier the surgery and recovery. So I am trying to shrink my liver for that purpose. I've cut out carbs and sweets. I mostly drink Protein Shakes. I buy from this company I am involved in that has a really good shake- mocchachino!!! MMMMmmm. But it is rather tedious and I slipped again last night from the shakes, but in an acceptable way. I had a turkey patty, a slice of Tomato and cottage cheese. Plus, as of today, I've lost 4 lbs! Yeah!

Weightisover: you should take the money that you are saving from Starbucks and start a "new wardrobe" fund!!! You'll be surprised at how fast the $$$ adds up!!!

Angelic 1 what is the name of the shakes you are on?

I can not believe my ticker will say 1 month tomarrow!!! And some of you are this week!! I have had my date for like forever........and now it is almost here!!!

ALSO that means school is out for me!!!! WOHOOO!!! This has been such a hard year for me and I am so ready for some "home" time....

My doc doesn't really require a pre op diet either but starting tomarrow I am doing 2 shakes a day and one "Lean and Green" meal.

I have been sorta on the same plan since Dec. but only had 1 shake and 2 lean and green meals so now I will modify that....I think I have eaten all my favorites by now and am ready for no more "last suppers".

The only hard part will be ALL the end of school events...like I have at least 1 function a week for the next 4 weeks...so I just need to plan NOT TO EAT the junk!!!

Good Luck all you May Flowers!!!

Ok, now it is down to the home stretch!! I didn't even have time to think about the surgery over the weekend because I was so busy!! Now I am in "nesting" stage trying to get everything "ready" before I am out of commission on Thursday!!!

3 days will fly by!!! I am finally on my way!!!

Still not nervous. I'm sure I'll get a little nervous right before they put me under, but then it will be over!!! :wink2:

No date yet, :wink2: I've had all my testing done for about a week and a half now, I am probably going to call the surgeons office today and just make sure they have everything. I really want to get in there and see him so I can get the ball rolling! I have finals coming up in the next couple weeks and TONS of papers and projects and such to finish so I am super stresssed out right now, it would be a nice relief to finally have a date :tt2:

Anyways, good luck again to everyone with dates coming so soon!!! Bandfan, I can't wait to hear about how everything goes!!!

I work for a company that you have to be a member with in order to buy. It is internet order and basically asks you to switch shopping at other stores for some of the items that you use regularly. They sell nutrition items, cleaning items, body care items and more. And their products are safer for the environment than most found in stores. If anyone is really interested, private message me and I'll help you sign up.

Allison, also try calling your insurance company to make sure they have your paperwork. And ask if there is anything else you can do to help speed the process up.

Good luck!

Well, I am another May 1ster! The last 7 days have been tough on the liquad diet but, it got easier as it went. I am very excited but, think I'll also get worried when they are ready to put me out. That and I hope I don't have all the gas pain I've been reading about. I love this place. It is a great support system for all of us!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
