Any banders ride motorcycles?

Recommended Posts

I sure hope not. I was banded on 2-25-08 and took a ride this morning. About 100 miles total.

That's encouraging to me!

I'm being banded on 3/18 and we were planning a ride on 3/30....wasn't sure I'd feel up to it....you inspire me!

I didn't have anymore soreness or stiffness after the ride that I did before it. Mind you I have a softail frame and not a rigid frame. Rigids would probably make the ride alittle more questionable for Lab-Band patients with this short of post op time.

Thanks! I was banded on FEb. 15. and took a two hour motorcycle ride on the 7th day! (I bet the doc wouldn't like it) But, Felt great! We were out again this weekend (on the 15th day) and the trip was even better! But, after the first trip, I started to worry than I'd done something wrong. I live in west texas and the weather was great this weekend, 88 degrees! Good luck to everyone!!!!

Impressive, no way! Stupid, probably! Worth the ride, most definately!!!!!

I have to admit my wife was livid when she found out I took a ride.

I was like a 16 yr old sneaking out after curfew yesterday. I waited until the Wife and Daughter left to go to the Mall before I hatched my plan to ride. I knew I had a good 6 to 8 hrs before they got home.

What I didn't count on was getting caught. Everything was fine until my In-Laws called and asked my Wife: "what in the hell was that idiot doing riding so soon after surgery?" I didn't see them but they saw me. Busted, couldn't really say anything to prove I still had functioning brain cells so I kept quiet, smiled and took my lumps. My daughter was laughing her ass off at her 4'11' mom fussing at her 6'1" 375 lb Grizzley Bear Dad. She told me I was dumber than her 16 yr old brother. "HEY LEAVE ME OUT OF THIS!" my 16 yr old Son said.

Lets see, If I wait for her to go to the grocery.... Naw, I better let this one pass over for a while. No ride scheduled for today

Oh yeah, Lifting your leg high enough to get on the bike will remind you very quick that you had Lap-Band surgery 5 days earlier.

I would advise to be careful with that. Although your band may not be filled you won't notice until later on after a few fills.

Motorcycles vibrate as much as heavy metal shows. I love pit shows and I've been going with my husband a lot. It wasn't until last month's fill that I began to get physically sick to the point where I passed out last Friday night. The vibrations from the bass and the double kick drum were vibrating my stomach area so much that I began to get really dizzy and passed out in the crowd. It's amazing what a piece of medical equipment can do for you and to you.

Be careful on the road there guys, especially after a few fills lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
