Hey girlies, went to the beach house this weekend. It was great Friday and part of Saturday, then storms set in Saturday and high, cold winds on Sunday. Friday night is still a blurr, and I think it caught up with me this morning or either I've got what Eileenie's got/had.

Eileenie, did you drink any orange juice and vodka, sorry, I couldn't resist. Oh, I was so bad, we got to the beach about 3:00, started with a couple of screwdrivers over lunch, which for me was not a lot of food.

After a walk on the beach, we went back to the same place Friday night, Diane knows my favorite spot, (Awful Arthurs) we've eaten/drank lunch there before, hehe.

Kat, the healing is pretty much done, except for the swelling in my lower tummy, still tender on the sides from the Lipo and the girls are about a full cupsize too large :mad2:. Had so hoped to be a small D or large C. I'm down to a 38 around, but still DD's.

Sherry, are you crazy? Now's the time to ask for a raise or a new position or both. Go for it girl, they can't afford to say no now, I know how I'd feel if my new girl told me she was going to quit. I don't remember if I told y'all, but I had to let one of my girls go for stealing, I had special tracking software put on my work computers and this girl was stealing me blind, she was sending out letters for her boyfriends business on my time, my computers, my printers and my postage. Then she went and applied for unemployment, WTH!

NC Diane, sorry about the leg surgery, ouch! Sounds like the gathering will be a blast, but that's too far for me.

Gotta run catch up with y'all later.

Top O' the Mornin' to Ye Ladies!! Happy St. Patricks Day!

Not much going on here, our weather changed too Pat, snowing again this morning!! YUCK!

Had a great trip to Albq. on Sat. we won a few bucks at the casino, and saw the bike show, and the human Expo thing (very impressive---kinda icky, but awe inspiring just the same!)....was a fun day. Yesterday not so fun, but productive. Rick and I branded all my FIL's cows, he is going to sell out. So we had planned on our son being there, and FIL, as well as our friend Gary. Well work called out Son, Gary had company show up....and FIL decided he would hang out and have pot luck lunch at church. Well our son and us had already herded them all into a small corral enclosure, it had to be done! So usually we have 2-3 working the chute, and 2 in the pen running them through. Rick worked the pen, I worked the chute, he come out long enough to burn 'em----I give them their innoculations----2 shots, and doused them with fly powder----we even got the bulls done! And they were huge! Let me tell ya girls, I used to squeeze them a lot better with the extra 100 pounds!!! I would squeeze them down as tight as I could, lock the bar in, where it would not come totally loose, then I would wrap my arms around the bar, and hang on it, while Rick branded. Well, they are being burned---and it hurts so of course they jump and fight (I would too--poor things), and they flop me around on that bar like a fish outta water!! I am so sore this morning. But anger got me through getting them all done! I was so mad at us being stuck alone doing it, his Dad blowing us off, and he is one of 4 kids, but hell we are ALWAYS the ones doing it. Now when we butcher---we will be responsible for that too----we will separate them, feed them out specially twice a day, with high dollar feed and sugar---that guess who buys??? Then eventually load them, drive them 60 miles to the guy we use to process our meat--we will take ours and my inlaws as well. We will pay for the fuel, and use up one of our days off together doing the drop off, then when it is done we will spend our fuel going after the meat---and then comes the kicker------she expects us to also spend our time and space dividing their steer up, and storing it for the other kids--who have done diddly squat, and still get free beef. Some days I hate the whole situation--others I tolerate it better. Being so sore today----makes it a "hate it" day!!!! Oh well--we have calves to be sold as well, we have new ones hitting the ground in Texas....and several due here any day as well....and the cycle begins again.

From what I just heard on the TV we might need the meat, stock market crashed again???? Ay yi yi-----goodbye retirement!

Well I am off to stoke the fire, it is cold!!!!

TTYL~~

It's not that far!! Please come! It owuld be so great to meet you all!

Kat you are unreal!!!

OK well I have to go for a biopsy of my thyroid. Not sure when but sooner than later. Just another page in my journal!

Dianne---I just went through all of the biopsy and full studies of the thyroid. I had a huge tumor, as well as several smaller ones. The large one eventually was interfering with swallowing, and would cut off my air supply if I laid flat on my back at night.

My biopsy was a needle biopsy with a pathology consult on hand. It was scary---but not particularly painful. In my case the worst of it was the angle they had to have me in, to access the tumor, was the angle I could not breath in! So he would hold my head up, tell me to swallow and breath, then tip me back and go in with the needle. It was really not much different than a fill!!!

My results came back with cancerous cells. So we scheduled immediate surgery. Shrinking it with the radioactive iodine was not an option because the tumor was comprised of different material than the thyroid itself, so there was no guarantee it would kill off the tumor.

So I had surgery the middle of November. The tumor was restricted to the center (the isthmus) and the left lobe. My right lobe was only minimally involved, so they left most of my right lobe. My blood tests show more natural thyroid hormone than it has in years!!!

I have a faint scar across my throat, but it is not real noticable. The pathologist was also in the OR. He said the type of tissue my tumor was is often referred to as pre cancerous, as it would have eventually grown to be malignant....BUT as fast as it was growing---it was between an orange and a grapefruit when removed---it would have choked me to death long before it went cancerous. So in the end we celebrated!!!

My swelling is all gone, and I once again have a hollow in my throat, I feel tons better. I believe it had been an issue for several months!

Please let me know how yours goes....and if I can answer anything as far as mine went---call me anytime!

Hope you get good news from your biopsy. Don't let them panic you---mine was considered cold, and was still nothing to worry with!

Hugs~~

Kat

Oh Kat, I had no idea that you had gone through that! Thanks so much for sharing! I will let you know what they say. The ultrasound report sounds scary to me, but I know they say that if your going to get cancer this is the best kind to get.

How was your recovery? Did you feel like you had food stuck in your throat all the time? I've always thought that that was from my band and eating to much. I'm also getting ear pain on my left side which is the bad side.

Ok I've chewed your ear off enough oh wait 1 more question wait 2, did you have to stay over in the hospital? What were your symptons?

Thanks

Let's see Dianne---I noticed the lump in my throat---both inside and out. Like you I assumed it to be esophageal, and band related. Then I began seeing it from the outside....it became very noticable before they removed it.

I was told the same thing, that if you have to have cancer, it was an easy one to deal with. I was extremely scared, it would have been recurrance just before my 5 year mark, which takes me from remission, to cured! Something I am looking forward to---in September.

Recovery was EASY!!! They kept me iced in the hospital, and I had to stay overnight, mostly because my blood pressure was very low. He said it was a 50/50 proposition, some go home, some stay a night---I stayed. I kept ice on it day and night for 2-3 days----and I never had much swelling. I think the worst was the fact I could not yawn for a couple of weeks!

The incision is about 3.5 inches long, and is becoming very faint. My stitches come out after 10 days....and it was really lumpy, I thought it was going to be horrible, as I have a tendency to keloid. But he said they go between the cords in your neck, and it is usually a nice healing scar--I agree.

Symptoms----swallowing anything that was not mushy became a problem, ear, jaw and sinus pain on my left side. Sounds totally wierd, but my tongue felt too big for my mouth. 2 days before surgery my vision in my left eye blurred, they said it was pressure from swelling on the optic nerve! It cleared immediately. I could not lay flat, my air was cut off. Other normal thyroid issues---slow metabolism, always cold, hair was dry.

I felt so much better the next day when I left the hospital---that even the normal pain of having surgery---and a wound in my neck....I still felt better!

Watch what you wear, tshirts pushed on it, and choked me, I felt better wearing V necks.

I am PMing you my #'s. You can share them at anytime with the girls here----it is the rest of the world--that keeps me from just adding them!!!

Hugs~~~

Kat

MANDY!!!!!!! Where are you? You and Abi ok? I am worried about you! Check in, this is unlike you....MIA---you better not have taken the dang flying monkeys with you either!

Jessica--it is almost comical, I think both times I remember a guy being around, it has happened to coincide with one of us having some sort of girlie problems---and we scared 'em off!

It wasn't me.....all my girlie organs are decomposed in a land fill somewhere, and have been for years!!! LMAO!!

I'll be back in a little while, I am off to the dentist---surprise!! Now I have a bone sliver trying to work itself out, and it is VERY painful. So I see if my dentist can deal with it, or if I have to go back to the Oral surgeon. Maybe it is good, that I was too hazy to have my say to the receptionists!!! Wow---I might have handled that right!

Like I say---lots of these girls are in the process of training in new jobs---and it is a bit hit or miss now and then, but you would be hard pressed to find a more supportive group of women!!

Welcome, from the New Mexican Jersey Girl!!

Welcome Neeley!!!

I am one of the few ladies here actually from NJ but like Kat said it would be hard to find a more supportive group of women. I think I am the newest band member of the group but everyone is always very helpful and welcoming of any questions you may have.

good luck on your banding journey and enjoy the ride!!!

I need to do some catchin up on reading too. Although...look at our busy girls...we have barely any posts for March and we're almost in April. Can you imagine that! Seems everyone is so busy or we're all just too dang tired to post after a long day hmmm? Always know that I'm thinking of ya though, I really am and when I say my thankfuls everyday I'm thankful for this group as well :cheers2:

Gotta get my ars in the shower....need to do some holiday shopping for Easter lunch. Nothing special really...going for a quiet weekend  I need it for sure! and of course the usual chores need to be done. I think the dust bunnies are multiplying and you know what....they can! I'm too pooped to chase them around so go ahead.....draw in them hahaha. DH seems to like to do that which of course forces me to dust...shhh don't remind him to do that lol

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

      2. BabySpoons

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
