ajoneen 0 Posted March 1, 2008 I have a dilemma. I'm 4 days from being banded, on the liquid diet and sticking to it for five days now. A couple we haven't seen in a while has asked us (DH & I) to dinner. We love these people. Alot of fun to hang out with. They don't know about the band and I don't know if I want to share. The problem is whether to go or not. My husband said it is up to me. Do I go and order Soup and say I'm nursing a bad stomach. OR just order a healthy meal and eat a little bit? OR If I say no then I'm limiting my husbands social life and I don't want him to resent my choice of the band already. Help. Any opinions?
maziemommy 8 Posted March 1, 2008 I would do Soup or just drink, and claim going in for some medical testing, that requires food/fasting. ????? good luck.
amc581 0 Posted March 1, 2008 I agree with mazziemommy just get Soup I don't think anyone's going to make a big deal that your not eating some huge meal. I've come to realize WE think people pay more attention to the food we eat then they really do. I only really notice when people are eating something that looks really good or bad. Really if someone makes a comment about your soup consumption they need to worry about themselves more.
Bergdorfblonde 3 Posted March 1, 2008 order Soup and diet iced tea I have a dilemma. I'm 4 days from being banded, on the liquid diet and sticking to it for five days now. KarenG. 0 Posted March 1, 2008 It is up to you but if you don't feel comfortable having Soup while everyoen is ordering normal food - don't feel bad about opting out of the evening. Soon enough you will be on mushies and it is much easier to stay on the post-op diet (in my experience) than on the pre-op diet!
Angie4b1g 1 Posted March 1, 2008 Yep, get Soup and if they ask, just say you had a late lunch.< /p>
METALBAND 0 Posted March 1, 2008 I would go and say that you are watching what you eat....started dieting etc. That is what I did and the next time they see you they will not be so surprised at the weight loss. Plant the seed now and have fun tonight!
make33 2 Posted March 1, 2008 I would say definitely by all means, go with them. Don't make a big deal of it (even though you'll be somewhat nervous) but just order maybe a side salad and cottage cheese (I was allowed both in my pre-op diet--just NO SUGAR) and if they ask, tell them you're having hernia surgery and you have a special pre-op diet to follow. Just eat SLOWLY and you'll catch up with them and have no "down time" when you're looking at the rolls on the table!!! (This is what you'll do as a bandster!) I went out to dinner with my granddaughter a week before surgery and had to do the exact same thing (and she KNEW how much I loved to eat!). Just relax and have a good time with your friends!! :w00t:
Bergdorfblonde 3 Posted March 1, 2008 Order Soup, iced tea, and skim cappucino for dessert. If they ask why you arent eating so much, tell them that you had a big lunch and feel full. I hate when people talk about medical procedures at social settings. It's nobody's business. Just eat liquids and you will be fine. I have a dilemma. shortgal 5 Posted March 1, 2008 That's great. This problem will most likely come up again. After a fill, for example. My Dr has us do two days of full liquids and two days of soft food and it can hard to avoid all social situations while we get fills and wait for restriction. so learning how to handle the situation can help you post op as well. I'm surprised how often other people don't even notice what I'm eating, while I thought it would be so obvious. Have a fun night!
