Hello!!! I have been doing some research on weight loss surgeries and finally after talking with my liver specialist yet again (my primary doesn't believe in weight loss surgeries), we made a decision that my liver was only getting larger and so was I and I needed to take the steps now! He called the surgeon and got the ball rolling earlier this week and I go to my first informational seminar tomorrow! I was concerned about our insurance, but the coordinator that called to confirm said that if there had been problems with the insurance, she would be calling to cancel - not confirm! I am excited, but also scared to death - this means a whole different lifestyle. No more cooking the delicious southern dishes that I grew up on - or that my family loves (no wonder we all have weight issues) ...committing to an excercise program...but I am pretty certain I will enhance my life so much that the trade-offs will be minimal!

Question - any advice that you would have like to have had prior to your journey that you could pass on to me as I begin mine??

Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome to LBT. You are getting ready to make a wonderful change in your life.

As far as food goes, I got the band so I could lose weight and eat like a normal person. That means, I do try and make healthier choices, but I have not deemed any food a complete no-no either. If I really want something, and my band tolerates it, then I have it. The wonderful thing about my band is that it prevents me from overdoing it like I did pre-band.

Let us know how things progress, we look forward to making this journey with you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
