How many days after your surgery did you have your first BM? I'm taking Liquafiber with all my liquids but I'm not eating any food to...um, er...."push it out".

For me it was about 3 days after the surgery but not very much. Now that I'm on soft foods I'm returning to my pre surgery routine if you know what I mean.

Thanks girls. This is crazy. I'm in more pain now than I was when I woke up in the hospital! I'm going to try the heating pad. Wish me luck! LOL

OMG it was like a week. I wasn't uncomfortable, but I was freaking out.

I guess I just didn't have any food in there to expel.

Ouch Gibson :w00t: can you call your doctor, and ask if you can take a stool softener (without a laxative) or Milk of Magnesia? I took a stool softener and it did help me. Even if you're not eating much, you should still have some stool (your body is still producing waste products). I like the stool softener without the laxative, 'cus it's just more gentle. Ask your doctor first though!

I think my heating pad is my best friend right now, lol . . . but I'm oh-so tired of the overly sweet taste of liquid Tylenol. Bleh!

I hope you feel better soon sweetie!

I have been lucky, day 3 for me. I have been having middle of myback pains though. Not sure about that. Doctors office told me it could be because I'm slouching or walking slouched over or stiff like. I have been using a heating pad and its been a bit better.

I had like 1 diareah type poops on days two and three and then yesterday I had an actual real bowel movement.. though it wasn't a lot. But, I had started eating more solid liquids like runny refried Beans and cream Soups.< /p>

As my Granny used to say, I finally "had a little luck".:cool2:

I'm still hoping that things line out better eventually but at least SOMETHING HAPPENED! Thank you for staying tuned.

I'm 3 weeks out and still haing problems. I'm going but it's pretty rare, and...(upcoming TMI warning) it's kind of like what you'd find at the bottom of a rabbit cage.

So, I'm doing Colace daily, eating Activia yogurt, and drinking something hot every morning (tea or decaf). The most effective thing so far is the hot drink. Good luck - it's no fun.

Hopefully things are getting more normal for me. I just had a solid BM, the last one was so runny, that I finally have hope that I'll be able to poo on a regular basis! lol It wasn't spectacular, lol, but neither is my food intake. I'm so relieved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
