I can't believe it!!!!!! March 25th is the date

Recommended Posts

OK, I keep trying to post this and I have issues! The computer freezes, someone calls....lol, here I go again.

mrodr41 Congrats on your date! I know how exciting it is to get your date. I have tried chocolate Unjury and chocolate Body Fortress whey Protein. They both taste the same to me. I bought Body Fortress at Walmart and it was way cheaper. The Body Fortress came in Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and fruit Punch. I have also tried the unflavored unjury. It was Ok, but it made my crystal light thick. The chicken Soup unjury was ok as was the Tomato Soup unjury. So far I haven't come across one that I absolutely hated. I have tried some various recipes. The "chocolate monkey" with banana, chocolate (body fortress), milk and Peanut Butter tasted awesome!

vompton: Congrats on kicking two bad habits at once! YEAH!

mmh498: no problem. I love to help if I can. You have a cool ruler!

Midwest Carol: Congrats on the date! Come see the rest of us March bandsters in the March, 2008 threads.

Michelle88: Congrats on your date as well. Good luck with the 1000 calorie diet! I know you can do it!

Lori NC: Congrats and welcome! I gave up all the caffeine. I have mostly given up sodas. I am going to drink some diet clear ones the 2 days before surgery. It is my treat to myself. I am kind of worried about those two days of pretty much only liquid!

Busywoman: Good for you! I am happy for you that your insurance is going to pay. I wish mine would. It is great that you had that opportunity! Just think, next year when you downgrade, you can use your savings to buy new clothes! (Since all your current ones won't fit!)

Chubbychecker: I have to do the Clear Liquids for 2 days prior to surgery. Now I am on 1600 calorie diet, which isn't too bad. I have also given up caffeine. My doc says no alcohol a month prior, no aspirin for 2 weeks prior. Neither is really a problem. When do you start your fast?

I can't believe how quickly the date is coming up! I'm less than 2 weeks out.

The time is going really quick, my surgery date is next Thursday and I am starting to get skitty!! I go for pre-op test Monday and I heard that not great.

Hi Busywoman: I have pre-op Tuesday. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight monday. I am scheduled to be there for 3 hours. I have no idea what they will be doing for 3 hours???? I know that they take blood and you speak with the anestisologist. (ok, I am sure I spelled that incorrectly!) I figured it was one of those hurry up and wait things. Do you know what pre-op testing entails?

Hi Duke! Welcome. You should come over to the Support group section and look for March, 2008 bandsters. We have a bunch of threads and I think there are a few of us who are being banded that date. There are a few who have already gone through it. it is a pretty diverse group!

Duke and Moonshade, good luck and your right, this site is awsome.

Hopeinapril, you were told not to eat after midnight before your test?? My test are scheduled for 3:00 p.m.!! Need I say that sucks and I need to get some clarification which is hard to do on a Friday evening. I hate to think I am going to have to function all day Monday w/o anything to eat!

Good Luck and Congrats. I'll be right behind you. March 27th is my date. I've been fighting with insurance since March of last year! I was told to be persistant and not to give up fighting. They were right. I received my approval letter 3 weeks ago. Good luck.

Hi Moonshadow! love the name! welcome to our group!

Busy: Yep, I was told no food and nothing to drink after midnight, but then my appointment is at 8:45 am. I don't know if it makes a difference that your appointment is in the afternoon. I actually called them Friday to clarify because I thought they said no food only. I wanted to be sure that I couldn't drink Water because I drink a lot of water.

Welcome My Band and Lori! I love this board. It is so wonderful to be able to "talk" to all the folks who are getting banded around the same time!

Good luck everyone! I hope next week goes quickly!

Yep, I did some searching on the internet last night and the conclusion is 8 hrs. b4 test. My test is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., so I am going to try to grab some Protein at 6:00 a.m. when I get up. No Water all day is going to be rough, I might call and see if I can sip a little water, what do you think??

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
