Just banded and feeling awful

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2/27/08 and I am feeling awful. When do you start to feel better? I didn't expect this. I feel like I have a 5 year old sitting on my chest and I pulled my neck out by trying to get up.

I felt better within a couple of days, but I certainly didn't feel "good" or like I was back to myself until about day 10. Hang in there. Hopefully after the initial recovery, this will be the best decision you could have made for yourself.

Good luck to you and congrats on being banded.

Well, first of all, take your pain meds. That's what they're for!

This too shall pass. You'll be feeling better as each day goes on. Walking helps a lot, too. You don't have to get on the treadmill, or go outside for a walk, just pacing around the house helps. It helps you to heal faster, and also helps your body absorb the gas that they used during surgery to blow up your abdomen.

Hang in there, it does get better!

By the fourth day I felt better. The first couple days I described like an elephant was sitting on my chest. It's from the gas they pump into the belly to inflate it to have room to work. Walk around the house as much as you can and many people have said a heating pad helped them. I tried the Gas X...did nothing. I think that's because the gas is a different kind and isn't in our colon or intestine like gassy food is.

Be sure to sip Water ( or whatever your Dr told you to drink) so you don't get dehydrated.

Give it a few days. I felt like crap the first few days with soreness and fatigue. At about 4 days, life was much better. Your body was cut into and a piece of something was added. It's just telling you off for causing trauma!! Hang in there.

I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so awful. I was banded on the same day and feel great. Just give it time and do everything that you're suppposed to. Take the pain meds that's what they are there for.

The five year old on your chest would be called gas. Move around so your body can absorb the gas and you can get it out. Mine settled around my shoulders and neck yesterday. I was banded on Wed, like you. Today I feel like I did a bunch of crunches. Just give it time and remember to move.

Yes, remember to move. The worst thing you can do is sit or lay around and let your body stiffen up. The more you move around, the better you'll feel. Promise!

I am not normally a big baby, but I was in a LOT more pain than most people describe. I felt like someone had ripped every muscle apart in my body and things like trying to adjust my position in the hospital bed, getting up to go to the bathroom, pulling up my undies, etc.. made me moan and groan and feel like just laying down and saying forget it!

I did not take my pain meds as directed when I got home. Worst mistake ever. So please please take your pain meds!!!! I ended up pulling a muscle from holding myself funny from band pain, and by day 4 I ended up in the ER thinking I had a blood clot... it was a pulled muscle. DOH. Every day felt 10x better than the last for me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
