Fills without Flouro

Recommended Posts

Larae,

It sounds like you and your DH have been through quite a time with fills, but sounds like they were still successful. I hope you're both doing well and congrats on the weight loss!! :)

I am on my 2nd fill and I never had flouro. He found it the first time with no problems. He numbed me up good so I didnt feel a thing and it was over with in 5 minutes.

Hey there! I don't have my fills under fluro but it's gone really well until this last time...he had a little trobule finding the port with his fingers (he said because as you loose weight and your belly gets more lose the port can move around a llittle bit)but once he was sure he found it he just stuck me one time and that was it....

The last fill I had was with Dr. Gomez (aka Cutie-pie) and we did it w/out flouru, he had no problem hitting the port, one shot and he found it. Also, he didn't use any numbing meds, but it was not bad at all, I really didn't feel a thing. My port is flipped but luckily he was able to do the fill, I have to go in next Wed., because I didn't get any restriction from the one done last week. But its not bad getting it done w/out flouru.

Update....

Well I went in for another fill on the 11th. He decided to use Flouro because of where my port was located. That was fine, if he felt more comfortable using Flouro then I was obviously more comfortable.

I still don't have a lot of restriction, so I will be going BACK in for yet another fill on April 1st. This will make my 4th fill since February 19th. The thing is, I KNOW what good restriction feels like. I felt I had great restriction after my second fill, but it slowly disappeared and I feel like I'm starting all over again.

I think since I can tell when I drink Water how much restriction I have that I may be a little more vocal with this next fill. If I don't feel like I have enough, I might ask him to add a little more in. With my luck, I'll probably get overfilled :)

Fills can be tricky, and getting that right amount can be even trickier <<< Is that a word?

At this point I would have no problem letting my doc try to fill me without Flouro. When I lay down, it's quite obvious where my port is, he even made a comment last time that he could have filled me in his office based on feeling it on the exam table in the Flouro room.

I'm hoping this next fill will do the trick.

I don't know what the actual odds are, but I've heard way too many stories of doctors missing the port. I've even heard of people that were sent home cuz the doc couldn't find the port. I should go have some fun with the pretentious local band surgeon (ass) and make an appointment for a fill to see how long he looks for my port before giving up (I don't have a port.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
