Hard a really bad night last night!!!

Recommended Posts

Boy oh boy was last night a dooseeee. I started feeling bad. The pain in my neck got worse. So I took some of the liquid vicodin they prescribed for me. A little bit latter, my nausea got even worse. I felt like I was going to throw up imminently. But I did not have a thermometer to measure my temp. So on the way into town, I had a burp and felt a touch better. Bought a thermometer and checked my temp. In the mean time I got a hold of my doctor and talked with him. My temp was below normal so no fever-just sweating from the nausea. Doctor said the pains in my neck could be from the gases of surgery. That I should just take it easy and let the nausea pass with time. So I asked about the anti-gas medicine and he said I could take it. So I also bought some of that. By the time I got home I started feeling worse. Quickly took the gas medicine with some Water. Then it happened. I threw up--total of 3 times but since I was on liquids, nothing came up. Then the anti-gas medicine must of opened up (it was a soft gel) because I could feel the pain in my neck and the pressure subside. I was exhausted and still had a headache but laid down and went to bed. Woke up about 4 hours later with a terrible headache and mild nausea. The headache felt like a sinus one so I took my sinus medicine and another anti-gas medicine. Waited for about 30 minutes to be sure they dissolved and started feeling the effects, then went back to bed. This morning got a headache again, but trying to tough it out hoping that its just all the medicines working out of my body.

Boy I have not been sick for awhile and forgot how terrible it feels.

So any well wishes you guys might have --I will take them all.

Thanks,

T

Wow- What a crappy nite. I felt your pain with every-word. I am not banded but I do know they say walk-walk -walk to get the gases out & even suggested swimming. Oh wait, the swimming was for female cramps.:0)

Just thought I could get you to smile this morning. Everyday is going to be better..All the bandsters will promise you this, so get a moving as much as possible today & tonight you'll sleep like a baby;0) At least I hope so. Good luck!

Awwww I hate to see you are sick, hopefully it will pass soon. You might try using a heating pad on your neck, and try walking as much as possible. Keep sipping your liquids too.

I use Excedrin for Migraines when I get bothersome headaches. It has caffeine in them so make sure it is ok with doc to take them. THey work within 15 min on me to relieve my headaches. The only thing about them I hate is that I have to bite them to get them small enough to go down. They do thave the long slender pills that go down easier now. The gel caps are awful to pass through the band. HURTS!! They will pass but I don't advise the Excedrin gel caps.

BigT, some bandsters have found those first few days to be a little tough with those gas pains. But I promise you, it will get better. Hang in there!!!

Oh so sorry you are sick. For the Nausea did the Dr. not give you anything pre or post op to have on hand??

Excedrin works great for me too I have the type that dissolves in your mouth.

For neck aches I usually rub some Icy Hot on the nape and lay down also do that when I have the migrains. Hang in there it will get better.

Big T, I hope you are better today. It's hard enough to be sick, let alone sick and recovering from surgery.

Sending you lots of well wishes for an easier day!!!!

Patty

Getting over general anaesthesia is the worst part of banding. I'll bet that's what caused the nausea, and maybe the headache too. I hope you recover quickly!! Be careful not to do too much--use any excuse to rest up for the next few days. You'll be better before you know it. :)

Sorry to hear you had a rough night. Be very careful about the nausea. If this continues, you may need to ask for some Phenergran to keep yourself from actually vomiting. So early on, this could be risky to your band. :) Hopefully you'll have a much better day today!!

Hope you're feeling better. I know from experience that nausea can be caused by pain medication and made a whole lot worse if combined with other meds. I took a Vicodin before some LASIK touch-up surgery and they gave me Tylenol with codine afterwards and I was sick 1/2 an hour later. I've also taken other pain meds and they make me real queasy. Be careful with mixing medications - some of them really don't interact well.

Hope you're feeling better today. Please get a prescription for phenegran suppositories and keep on hand for real vomiting (not pbs). When that hits, you don't feel like going to the pharmacy for something.

Thanks so much for the well wishes. I am making it slowly today. These headaches I get can sometimes be a killer and this one is. I have been keeping a wet cold towel around my neck and that has helped some. I am trying to take naps but the darn phone wakes me up just as soon as I get nice and cozy. And with friends worrying about me, I know if I don't answer the phone that they will just get more worried since I am here all alone. I just talked with my doctor and he said that my sinus meds are okay to take just for now to help me get over this hump. My intense nausea has gone away as of this morning so I am glad. I will be talking with my PCP for the phenergan suppositories as I did have them on hand previously, but then when I went for them last night I saw I must of used them all up last time.

My doctor also said to not worry about the little bit of throwing-up I did as the stitches are tight and would not rip out. He also told me that my band is fairly loose so I don't have to worry about getting a pill stuck as long as it is not a horse pill. Thats good to know.

I am staying away from the vicodan as that can cause the nausea, and I might still take the anti-gas meds as that is a fairly beneign medicine and its preventative use is good insurance for me right now.

I have been walking alot, maybe too much, but with my headache as bad as it is, I have to just sit still and not make any sudden movements.

Thanks again for all the sympathy.....

T

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
