Any good cottage cheese flavorings?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to this forum although have been reading it for a while. I am scheduled for my surgery on March 4th (which leads to a lousy pun about how I am going to "march forth' into a new life. lol). Actually, even though it was all my idea, I'm a bit scared at this time. I'll be alright though. If I lose enough to drop a few meds I'll be estatic.

Anyway, I'm on my two week liquid preoperative diet. I assume that most of you could eat yogurt and cottage cheese on it. I'm really getting tired of cottage cheese and have even tried flavoring it with taco seasoning for variety. I was wondering if anyone else was equally tired of the stuff and found other, more exciting, non-fruit flavorings.

Last night I made Ricotta cheese with enchilada sauce (I added some other things - black Beans, cilantro, low fat mozzarella - but I am on the mushy stage) but that may be a good match I baked mine till it was bubbly. yumm.

I don't care that much for cottage cheese but I've tried it with baby food peaches mixed in and it wasn't so bad. My surgery date is the same as yours. I'm on liquids starting today (was low carb high Protein 5 days before). Good luck !

I really like the cottage cheese that comes flavored with chives. I've tried just adding chives to plain cottage cheese, but I didn't like it as well.

As a kid we always had cottage cheese with pineapple or peaches, so you could add the juice to it for flavor. We always used fresh Tomato slices as well so I can definitely see adding salsa juice to it as well. I can't stand cottage cheese myself, I have a problem with the texture. Yogurt isn't as bad but I can't get through a whole container of it. Luckily my 21 month old loves yogurt so I share it with her. She also goes through a tub of cottage cheese every week too. I'm trying not to inflict my food hang-ups on her.

thanks, this should help me get through the weekend.

and just in case you wondered, you can make taco seasoning with equal parts of chili powder, cumin, oregano, and onion powder, and add paparika for color. Or I suppose you can just buy a bag of the stuff.

thanks again

I never liked cottage cheese, unless it was loaded with Pineapples or peaches and the juices. But I bought some Breakstones lowfat cottage cheese and I like it all by it's self with nothing added. Give it a try, it has a nice flavor to it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
