March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Christine - it's not funny... but it's funny that you are actually glad that you are still in pain. I feel for you and hope that you and your doc figure out what is going on so that you can fix it soon.

I think it is a common fear, I know I suffer from it, that we are going to gain all of our weight back. After what feels like a hundred years of yo-yo dieting, that is what we've come to expect. Remember though - the band is different. This is not like the last time... and once you've lost it, it's gone forever. This band is meant to work for life, and even if you "stretch" your pouch and try to go back to your former ways, from what I understand, you go to the doc get an unfill and leave it unfilled for about a week. Then the pouch shrinks becuase it can, and then you get filled again and BAM!! you are right back at restriction. This is a wonderful tool and I'm so happy to have it.

I also wonder if there is a time period where people tend to experience a slump.

I would like to say more... but gotta run.

Chin up ladies (and absent gentlemen:blush:) - we've come a very long way

I have been lurking for a week or so, just reading. I want to post comments to everyone, but I need to post these pics before I chicken out. I have been a cameraphobe for most of my life, fat repels cameras if you didn't know. I hope this works.

Isn't it scary how candy has reared its ugly head for us at one year out? I can now have alot of pity for our RNY surgery friends who find that eating candy causes them to dump and be very sick or worse yet, they discover that the candy doesn't make them sick and it becomes their weakness also. Need to keep our head in the game!== getting healthy!

Christine - I hope the doctor figures out why you are hurting after eating. I know you are bummed.

Special K - Every day is a new day. Make the most of it. If it helps, log what you eat. That helps you to be accountable.

I do not have the restriction that I need after the fill and then unfill. I ate 2 pieces of pizza (thin crust) for dinner. I am almost afraid to get an unfill. I only have about 5cc in a 14 cc band. Everytime I go past 6cc I have trouble. I need to make better food choices and EXERCISE.

I am hoping to be in the 180's on Friday. We will see.

I have a very similiar issue. Once I hit 6 cc's I had to stop going from 1 to 2 CC fills to small .5 cc fills. I am currently at 6.5 and actually doing pretty good with that.

I think its harder saying no to the bad foods now that I am out a year and close to goal. I had 3 Cookies yesterday and had to force myself to not eat more. I find if I put them in the freezer my family can have them and I'm not as tempted.

On Tuesday I went to the plastic surgeon to see about getting the extra skin removed from my belly. At my last appointment with my lapband dr he told me it was time to check on that.

The plastic surgeon thinks insurance will cover removing the bottem part of the belly but not so sure about the top part. He did say I also have a hernia so they could go up a little higher and fix that.

The charts say I should weigh 136 to be a normal bmi right now I weigh 152. I would love to be a normal bmi but I'm really scared about surgery so I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. The plastic surgeon said I am a good candidate. I told him I'm not committed to doing this yet and to see if insurance will cover it and then we will go from there.

I was also very scared of lapband surgery but I felt I had to do something for my health and was more scared not to have that done. I don't feel a Tummy Tuck is really needed, but I would like to feel and look nicer.

What all are you thinking of doing when your time comes??

Rhonda cut yourself some slack- It is just one day. Live and learn. Each holiday you are handling it better.

Rhonda - everything in moderation. If you want an easter sweet - decide what you want and only eat a small portion. There is nothing in the lapband manual that says you can't eat a sweet every now and then. Just allow yourself enough to satisfy your sweet tooth and move on. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Yes, I want plastic surgery. I still weigh 190, so I have a ways to go before I can start discussing it. I have huge bat wings and my belly will definetly need some work.

Happy Easter everyone!!!

Happy Easter to all!

I am cooking tomorrow, Ham, sweet potato casserole, rolls, veggies. Also cake for dessert. This is my first opportunity to be hostess for the holidays in a long time. I am looking forward to it, and have been cleaning like a crazy woman....

Plastic surgery is in my future. I went and got a quote, so know the $$$ involved. Just have to decide when I will go for it. And my insurance will modst likely pay for a portion of it..

Last Easter I think I had Tomato Soup and a Protein shake or something like that. My family all went out to eat and left me at home. I was about 5 days out from surgery and felt horrible.

And I did eat sweets today and they were yummy and now they are put away, froze or given away so I'm done. Will start again tomorrow.

My doctor told me that is part of maintaining. Just don't eat like that everyday. I told him I gain weight every week end and then lose it during the week. He was ok with that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
