March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've been a lazy girl, not checking the boards! Too much going on I think. But I've missed you all with your sage advice!

I've finally finished my postgrad, have my graduation ceremony in a couple of weeks and I'm now just waiting to hear about work for next year. The worst part about the education system is that they only have to give you 2 days notice to start work anywhere in the state -- so I could be given 2 days notice that I have to move 15 hours drive from here! Bah!

Anyway, I'm impatient and frustrated with work etc. Otherwise, my weight loss has been going well, even though some of my food choices haven't been that great. Weird, huh? I guess that's the beauty of restriction -- even when I DO decide to eat something naughty, I sure can't eat much of it!

Anyway, I've been pretty down for a while, but I'm hoping I'll come back up again soon. Glad to see that we're all surviving here.

Much love to all,

Annie.

I was going to skip my workout this AM, since I am off today. But instead, I convinced myself I love the energy jolt it gives me for about 4 hours each day....it really wakes me up. So I did it....3 days in a row!Christine

I went into the city last night for a play. It's been a long time since I've been comfortable in those theater seats. I am not sure who they had in mind when those seats were built into the theaters but even my slim (but tall) husband fines himself a bit wedged in. Anyways for the first time in a long time I didn't think I was encroaching on the folks next to me.

Man was it brisk last night in NYC. I REALLY was cold walking around. I have a bit less insulation these days.

I saw the Dr on Friday and he's happy with my progress. So much so that he doesn't want to see me again for 3 months. OK.

I was a little ticked cause then he said: "you're strong, healthy and carry your weight well. I'm happy with the weight you've already lost, anything more will be a bonus." WTF

That is just not right. In the past when I've tried to talk to him about a goal weight he has always said that's a discussion for another day down the road. Well when I told him my goal weight Friday he said I had to be realistic and not set myself up for disappointment.

Man I'm I going to show him

OMG! You've lost 60% of your target loss! That's GREAT!

I'm looking forward to the day when I can travel in a standard coach seat without it killing me; since I'm tall, that's essentially never going to happen.

I always said WTF had its place in the world and this is a good example of why...screw him...you'll be down all the weight before you know it...maybe this is reverse psychology??? but it still pisses you off...I'm with you!!!

A weigh-in day today, and a bit disappointing. I've been pretty good, and pretty active, and still only lost two pounds in six days. I expect more from myself!

A lot more.

Yes I also went to a doctor today and he is thrilled about my 77 lbs so far and said at the one year point, that I'd hit about max amount lost and I immediately came back at him with well, I'm going to prove you wrong on that and I know alot of other lapband patients that are blazing along and dumping that statistic in the dust. Come on Shrinking Shamrocks, let's show the medical community out there what we really can do when we set our minds to it... and set our forks down too!

It's funny, because once I hit the 60lbs lost mark, I realised that that was half my excess wieght. The advertised statistic that goes with the lap band. My MD does no thave a goal for me, but in my initial consult days had mentioned me getting to about 160! I almost fell off my chair....could not fathom that kind of number ever, but now I see it as attainable. Of course it would be so nice if the scale would start moving again for me, but I know it will soon.

I see that surgeon tomorrow. I hope all goes well and I get a small fill. Way too hungry. I make better choices when I have more restriction.

Christine

I'm surprised he said our max will be at the year marker... that's what they say for gastric bypass patients. I was told 2-3 years out that our weight loss would equal that of a gastric bypass patients.

I agree with all of you.... WE ARE KICKING A** WITH THIS WEIGHT LOSS!!!!! JUST IMAGINE WHERE WE ALL WILL BE ON OUR ONE YEAR BANDIVERSARY!!!!!!!

Weight loss has slowed, but still seeing progress on the scale. About 1 pound a week and I am definitely not complaining. Exercising more and even looking into a few sessions with a trainer, but that is on hold until $$$ issues are better.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone. Enjoy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
