March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Westcoastmom -- I hope you will consider working your lapband tool to its fullest including getting fills as needed but discuss your worries with your doctor and see what they advise. They could go very very conservative on fills for you and space them out weeks and weeks apart to give you time to see how each goes.

You've read the countless other posts I'm sure that say go on out for dinner at a restaurant but eat slowly, chew extremely well, and try not to order something that is very dry to eat. My toughest time seems to be very lean chicken - like a grilled chicken breast without any kind of sauce. With a little moisture, and small bites, I'm fine.

Same with salad - I need some dressing on it - not much but a little.

Good luck.

Oh, these are the reasons I just can't seem to make myself go in for fills. I am just too afraid I will be out somewhere and won't be able to get to a bathroom. (Or to be more honest, I am just to afraid to experience the restriction and side effects all together.)

I have never been just a chicken in all my life...

My bad experience was 100% my own fault.....don't let that frighten you!

I learned so much from this.....eat slowly, chew properly, don't eat on the run!

I agree, don't be afraid to fully utilize your band!!

Thanks for the support! I am getting closer to being ready for a fill - I am more hunger and looking to snack more often. Our office is great about working with you and I probably have a ways to go before I would feel much restriction.

I posted a photo on your progress thread -which is hard for me to do! I have worked it so far, but this stand still probably means I need to think more seriously about a fill.

Or at least think less about the Flat Earth Tangy Tomato Ranch Baked Veggie Crisps...

I've not had much in the way of hunger pangs until recently. I had a fairly calorific weekend, and now I seem to get v. hungry v. quickly. I'm snacking more, falling prey to crap like Hershey's Kisses or M&M's in the writing room where I work. I think part of it is boredom and part emotional, but I also think I've stretched my stomach a bit. I think I'm going to go back to liquids for a day or two, at least until I snap this bad behaviour.

I'm a bit worried that my FL trip next week will be a challenge. But I've found a gym, and I'll go there, so that's good.

I think.

You know what I just noticed? We've made more posts in the March Bandsters forum than they have in the *January* Bandsters forum, despite their having an extra two months!

writing room??

I've heard that carb addicts can't just eat a few sweets. Once the body gets a taste it just hits em with the unbearable cravings.

Amanda - my husband would be so jealous of your boat. It is funny that even though he grew up on LI and his family has a great place at Lake George that he didn't get his sail boat until we moved to Seattle. Anyway, we have a Catalina 27 - which is just big enough to fit the 4 of us and our dog when we go off on trips. I like the recreational part, but my husband loves racing.

Mylah - the hunger pangs get bad sometimes! I just try to ignore them and give myself some rules. I guess fear has been a great motivator!

... and red we love those 2 red-heads. It is hard to lose them in a crowd.

WCM's referring to the Post Pictures of Your Progress thread that Harley started in the March 2008 Bandsters forum.

It's not just a carb thing - I'm overeating skinless boneless chicken, and chicken sausage - I think I may even be hitting the beef Jerky a little too hard. The carb stuff bugs me more, though, because it's empty calories. Partly it's availability - at home I don't have any carbs to tempt me, but in my office during the day, and at the place where I write in the evenings, there are public bowls of Hershey's Kisses and M&M's and whatnot for when people need a fast pick-me-up. I think I'm still losing, but mostly because of my exercise.

I just have to manage myself carefully. I'm going to be out of temptation's way for the next couple of days - let's see how I do.

Here's an interesting study:

Writing down every morsel doubles weight loss

Dieters who kept daily food diaries were more successful, new study says

Writing down every morsel doubles weight loss - Diet and nutrition - MSNBC.com

Fenton - Wonder if recording everything you eat on www.thedailyplate.com is as good as actually writing it down. There is still that visual effect. :confused2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
