March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Here's a prayer that the Monday banders have had an easy day. Good wishes and special thought for Tuesday Banders. I did my pre-op today which consisted of 2 1/2 hours for 3 test sessions. 1st session was "learning how to breath for after surgery" with the resp. ther. 2nd session was blood work, 9 vials, thank the Lord they did not have to fill the vials. 3rd session was a chest and side x-rays. They did not have me do the barrium stuff (no, I'm not upset!) I am on a clear liquid diet on Wed., nothing after midnight, and have to be @ hospital by 6:00 a.m. although they still could not tell me what time surgery was. I have lost 16 lbs since December. Folks, I'm getting nervous!! But happy!!

did they have you bring home the breathing thing? If so how often do you have to use it before the surgery?

I got to the surgery center at 9:00 am, was scheduled for 10:30 but they were running late and someone else went back at exactly that time. Can't remember what time I got back there(happy shot lol) maybe 12ish because each surgery takes approx 1.5 hrs and you are in recovery for an hour but I remember looking at the clock when I was leaving and it was approx 3pm.

Scrappy, glad you are home and feeling better!

Harley, and Pippin, wow, you got in there, got it done, and got out!!!

Wed. banders, good luck tomorrow, you will do wonderful as everyone else has.

Mrodr, they told me to set the breathing thing beside my chair as I am watching TV and try to use it at least once per commercial. I was also instructed to bring it with me to the hospital on the 20th because I will be expected to use it after surgery. So far I can get it to register 3000-3500 but I think the nurse wanted it to register between 3500-4000.

Stellabella, I was also told to drink the magnesium citrate the day b4 surgery. I am to drink 1/2 @ 6:00 a.m. and the other 1/2 sometime later in the day. I forgot when but I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow to find out. My DH said the mag. citrate will start to affect you within 30-45 minutes but not to be too far from a restroom especially right after you drink it. Hope this helps, I plan on spending my day at home tomorrow cleaning, washing, and ----ing!!

Hi Shamrocks! Just a quick post to introduce myself. I was just given a surgery date yesterday and it's all happening next Wednesday, 3/26. I am so excited and nervous at the same time! I've never been sedated, so I'm a little apprehensive about that- I just feel like as long as I wake up, the rest will be a piece of cake. I've had two c-sections and recovered quickly from them, so I don't think this will be so bad. I'm just nervous about letting them knock me out. I'm going to ask for 'something to take the edge off' beforehand and maybe then I won't care that they're knocking me out.

I tend to be more of a lurker on message boards, so you may not hear from me on a regular basis, but I've been here, reading post after post after post since about the end of January. I will try to share my experiences and say hello every now and then, though. It has been great to hear what everyone else is going through; I really appreciate the detail some of you are sharing with the rest of us! It really helps when you're still on the "unbanded" side of this whole affair.

Good luck to everyone still waiting for surgery, and happy healing to those already on the other side!

hi stellabella and welcome i am alo scheduled for the 26th. I am nervous as well but i am ready. I start Clear liquids on the 23rd. keep in touch

Those just banded- don't forget to use the heating pad on your chest and shoulder. It really helped me with the shoulder discomfort.

Rhonda-I very proud of you as you were not sure you could make it past the front doors. Way to go!!!

Warm vibes, happy thought, good juju to everyone tomorrow!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
