Here's my plan for eating out tonight...

Recommended Posts

I'm newly registered on the site but have been lurking for a while. An old friend is visiting for the week and wants to have dinner at an organic Chinese restaurant I'd mentioned before. Chinese food is a major weakness of mine, and at four weeks post-op and with no fill yet, I realize I need a solid plan to prevent myself from overdoing it. So, I plan to order a small egg drop Soup and eat a few bites to half of it, depending on how I feel. Then, for an entree, I'm ordering either chicken stir-fried with mixed vegetables or chicken with cashews. I'll ask for a to-go box as soon as we order, and I'll pack 2/3 of the entree into it as soon as it arrives. I'll eat with chopsticks to force myself to eat more slowly, and I will not eat any rice. I'm also going to repeat my plan to my friend. Hopefully that, along with posting it here, will force me to be accountable.

Thanks for reading!

Jenny

Sounds like a good plan. You could also just order a Soup and appetizer so you won't be too full.

Be prepared... you might see a jump in the scale tomorrow. Chinese food always does it to me because of the high sodium. Plan on drinking some extra Water tomorrow.

Thanks, Libra. Yesterday morning I was up .6 pounds and today I was down .3 from that, so still up a bit but no serious damage from the Chinese. I'll still be drinking lots today to try to flush it out. The plan went really well, though--gave me confidence that I'll be able to handle eating out as long as I think about it beforehand.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
