How long does it take to drink 16oz of liquid?

Has this been a problem or do U just adjust since it's a new way of eating/drinking and it's something U get use too?

I could drink that amount in about a week. That first week though give your body time to heal. Don't push it. Rest and relax and be babied. LOL!!

I thought she was asking how long it takes to drink that amount? If I'm not tightly restricted, I can drink 16 oz in just a few minutes. It wasn't until the last couple of months that I had any trouble chugging Water, for that matter. Now I can drink a big mouthful every couple of minutes, with no problem.

I'm unfilled (and haven't been banded for 6+ months like you asked, but thought I'd chime in anyway) and I could drink 16 ounces in a few seconds.

I only say this to point out what's possible if you have no fill whatsoever and don't have any natural restriction.

So, if U aren't restricted yet (no fills) it's easy drinking. If U have fills it takes longer?

I think the key is to drink as much as and as quick as you are able. Sometimes if I take a big chug of Water after running, it seems to get stuck. Sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to drink a 20oz coffee from 7/11. Other times I can down a pint or 2 of water with no problem. I think the band is great. I also think it makes us listen to our body which we never really did before. I look at my band as my inner voice now. If it says to slow down, i do, if I don't I'll pay. I am in the process of thinking of a good name for my talking band.

Hi,

I can drink 16 oz of Water in a few minutes. If I am stressed or it is early in the morning, sometimes it can take me a little while, so I sip instead.

That's been my experience. I'm barely past the six-month mark. I could gulp a lot of Water before my second fill, but now that I'm pretty restricted, I can't. And I have to be careful not to take a big drink before lying down. Tip: I always carry a 32-oz. plastic water bottle with a built-in straw so that I can sip all day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
