Mushy food-any good ideas?

Recommended Posts

Okay, So I am on mushy food still for another week. I have ate: Beans, applesauce, yogurt, cream Soups, tuna with mayo, ice cream, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, and bad me, I ate lot's of lays potato chips because they seemed to disolve really good and the dr. and nutritionist said as long as I am not having trouble with it then it's okay but try to eliminate them for now. So that is obvious, but any ideas for other foods? I am tired of the same stuff.

Chip dissovle because they are a Carb.. and your saliva glands dissovle carbs... just like it would if you held a popcorn in your mouth...

Anyway... Have you tried cream Soups? Maybe like spam, mayo, pickle, cheese.. blended up very mushy... like a fine sandwich spread... maybe blend a couple of your favorite fruits and pour it over cottage cheese for and sweet treat. thats all i can think of... Im sure more people with help with better ideas... Good Luck!

I had a great time with the mushy phase at the deli counter. There are wonderful dips and spreads out there for the tasting--especially things like hummus, tzatziki, goat cheese, chopped liver, and so on. All these things I never bought before because they're expensive were fair game during this stage since they are all I was eating. Explore and discover exotic foods you might not have considered before. And don't worry about calories at this point. Have fun!

Jack- the omlet thing sound good. I am just scared to try eggs again because when I tried it, I had some serious diarreah and nausea. But I could try it one more time. I am thinking that Hot Sause on food at this point is a NO NO. But, I love me some Crystal hot sauce on practically everything. If I take the breading off of fish sticks, are those soft enough to eat at this point, and can I put some lemon, salt, and Crystal on it?

Hi there Norma. I am still on the Mushy phase too, and it's delicious compared to the Protein Shakes. I still do one shake a day to get in that extra Protein, I can't seem to get enough if I eat 3 mushy meals a day. I've had spaghetti squash, with some meat sauce, or with cottage cheese and parmesean. It's a veggie but tastes like a Pasta with the different variations of sauce. I made home made black bean Soup, added sour cream and shredded cheddar, shrimp salad, egg salad, omelets, egg fritatta, sugar free pudding with some extra Protein Powder, I actually tried some soft egg plant and that stayed down fine, soft fish...Those are my ideas....Hope you're doing well!! Enjoy!

Last night I blitzed up some 3 oz smoked fish (haddock) with grated horseradish, yoghurt and a little half fat creme fraiche (sour cream). To go with it, 2oz of frozen peas simmered with half a clove of garlic, blitzed with 2 tsp creme fraiche and a sliver of butter. Total cals 350. Absolutely delicious!!!

For lunch I blitzed 3 oz chicken fillets with a tblsp hummus, tablespoon non-fat yogurt and a squeeze of lemon juice. Added in some Korean chilli sauce too. Cals apaprox 300.

I think it's really important to satisfy your taste buds as well as your appetite. Hope that helps!!!

La Madam recommended some Ricotta cheese with Peanut Butter to me when I was in the mushy stage. My first reaction was YUCK! when I thought of it, but I went ahead and tried it out anyway.

Let me just say I thought that I was in heaven! Very yummy and tasty treat that can be made with either creamy OR crunchy peanut butter.

Best Wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
