I am about to schedule my lap band procedure and hope to have it next month some time! I do have a lot of weight to lose and have worries that I can do it with the lap band. I am so happy to see that there are quite a few people who have successfully lost 100+ pounds. It appears like most of the weight loss occurs in the first 6 months. Is this typical?

hi, welcome to LBT!

i lost about 85-90 pounds my first 6 months. took me 8 months to lose 100 and i'm 16 months out and have lost about 150.

the less you weigh, the more you have to work at burning the cals. but it's worth it.

banding is the best thing ive done for myself. good luck on your journey.

Wow! You are doing great! I hope I can do as well as you have done! I weigh about 260 now and need to get down to 130 since I am only 5'2". Good luck with your continued loss!

I started with 140 pounds 2 lose and I am well on my way and I have done this well so far without even a fill in my band! You will do just fine, be sure to follow the band rules and you will see great results I am sure. Be sure to add exercise into your life, this will help dramatically with the weight loss.

130 pounds... that sounds familiar! That's how much I had to lose when I was at my high weight of 286. I've since lost 46 pounds, over a third of the weight I need to lose gone in only four months. Believe me, if I can do this, then the devil better go out and buy himself a pair of ice skates. The way I feel now, he should make a date to go window shopping soon. You can do it, ColoradoChick!

It is very normal to feel nervous, but the band is an awesome tool to help us in our battle with food! As long as my band isn't too tight - I am the happiest girl on the block!

Best of luck to you . . .

Less that a week now to surgery! I am on day three of the liquid low carb pre-op diet. I have been fighting hunger with the pre-op but hopefully today will be better! Thank all of you for your support. I am looking forward to getting my life back!

Depends on the person... I didn't lose most of my weight in the first 6 months. I lost over about 18 months and then stalled.

That said: the closer you get to goal, the more you have to work at it (your body needs less calories). And a lot of people find they are very motivated at first, and that motivation fades after the first large chunk of weight is off.

Ex: I feel a TON better at this weight than I did at 299. I look a lot better at this weight than at 299. And yet, I'm now getting to the point where it's obvious that a) I'm still ridiculously fat and it looks bad and  there are people just starting out with their surgery right now who are my height and weight!

So plan to be in this for the long haul. You might be someone who is at goal a year from your surgery. You might be someone who has to keep slogging away for a couple years. And even once it's off, ya gotta keep it off. I assume people at goal are still having to carefully watch what they eat and exercise to stay that way.

Good luck with surgery!!

WOW! I'm excited for you. I only have 10 days left til my date. I only have to do 2days of preop liquid. Have you use Isopure. It has so much protien & 0 carbs. I easily got through the day without hunger.

Ihae 60 more #'s then you to lose but I know we can do it. I'm from western Ne but am having my surgery in Denver. Can't wait! I'll be thinking about you.

I am using IsoPure and Unjury. They are both pretty good tasting. The DaVinci syrups are also life savers for me! I really like the IsoPure vanilla with Hood's Carolie Countdown Dairy Product and a couple of shots of banana or Peach DaVinci SF syrup!

I am currently living in Virginia - but missing Colorado terribly!!

Good Luck and you are do lucky to be going to Denver!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
