I have had the most unberable gas that I have ever experienced in my life. It's from both ends. My burps are so long and loud that it's almost unbelievable it came out of me. At night I experience awful pain. It's such a sharp pain. I can't lay down with out talking milk of magnesea.

Does anyone relate?

I can't say I've had this problem, but have you tried Gas-X? That seems to be highly recommended for this problem. Good luck!

I was recommended milk of magnesea and to try Beeno. So far I just tried the milk of magnesea last night and it worked right away. But when I wokd up, I started feeling the pain again. Especially on my lower left side. I took Anatomy and Physiology, so I know that there is really nothing there but the large intestine. Has anyone ever complained of trapped gas with this change in eating?

Norma how long ago were you banded? I think you may still have trapped gas from the surgery. If so then walking can help and so will the milk of mag and the gas x. The gas and burping is normal. I went through it. I think others on here did as well.

The gas will eventually be reabsorbed into your system from the surgery. The other type of gas will follow you for the rest of your life. NO, seriously it just depends on what you eat. Broccoli, Beans, things of this nature can cause excess gas so the beano will help with that.

Hope this helps.

Maybe it's the Beans then. I'm Mexican you see, and Beans are my life. I will temporarily say good-bye to them and see what happens.

I had my band put in on 2/16/05, so I would think that the gas from surgery should be gone by now. But I will try to walk more like you suggested. Hopefully something will work.

Norma, I was banded on 1/12/05 and just got rid of my gas pains - mostly in my left shoulder. The rest of the gas still comes and goes, but at least it doesn't hurt. People say that the gas from this surgery can take 4-6 weeks to leave your system. Good luck.

Are you serious? Wow. You know my left shoulder has been having that tense feeling since the surgery too. Now I know what that is all about. Well I guess I have about another 3 weeks to get rid of this pain then.

Welcome to the world of a bandster Norma..LOL

I have had more gas in the last 11 months then I have had in my lifetime . I have gas everyday, there is a great thread here I started way back titled Burping & farting, do a search and you will see that you are not alone :)

I was told by my Dr. that the band works as a one way valve hence the reason for the gas. I wasalso told that bandsters are air swallowers since they haveto eat so slow now which can produce more gas, and I was told that chewing gum and drinking through a straw does not help thegas either. I have avoided the straw and cut back on my gum chewing so it is not as bad as it was. Maybe try and see if you eliminate those things if you do them if it helps.

I had gas pains earlier today in my left shoulder. I am so glad to see I am not the only one. I am 7 days post surgery, so I guess they will be here for a couple more weeks.

This is really good info. I try not to laugh when I fart, but sometimes it's just too funny seeing the look on my husbands face. He is this tall, musclular black man who hardly ever farts, and I am this short little Mexican. I tell my husband, "Hey it's the Beans, I'M Mexican, what can I say." He starts laughing too, but now my 15 month old laughs when he farts. How observent they are. I guess I have to laugh at it otherwise I will only focus on the pain.

I went to Urgent Care a couple weeks ago because of the same type of lower ab pain. They diagnosed me with gas. Embarrassing, but they say gas can get pretty painful.

DeLarla-That's funny! I hope you can laugh at that now. I know I would be embarrassed too if it were me. And I am the type of person who would have usually already been to the ER because I worry about everything. Good thing I didn't.

SO, what did they suggest?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
