Question about surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Ya'll, I was just referred to the surgeon today and asm still going to have a long road of getting it approved but, was wondering if you all might give me some input on about how long is the hospital stay and recovery? How long before you can usually go back to like a desk job?

Hi and welcome!

The hospital stay should be none, as it's an outpatient procedure. However, some docs will admit a patient for a day or two.

I was up and at 'em by weeks end. But I got tired really quick. I remember sleeping alot. Everyone is different and you can gauge it for yourself.

I was banded 25 hours ago. The doctor usually requires you to stay over night but I was banded at 7:30am and by 4:00 I was on my way home. I am not sure about returning to work because I do not have a job. The only thing I am experiencing is gas so I have to walk alot and that helps.

I did have a hospital stay, but was able to travel 5 hours by car, and another 5 in the airplane on day 3. Come home, and was back to taking care of my 16 month old granddaughter the next day....took it easy, but walked lots! Was out shopping the same week. I could have handled a desk job, if it was one I could get up and move around as needed.

Good Luck!

Kat

Hi feelgoodagain. My surgery was outpatient, so I checked in at the surgery center at noon for a 1 pm surgery. I was out of there by 4:30 pm. It really depends on your surgeon and your insurance company's requirements (some require an overnight stay, but I was self-pay). My surgery was on a Thursday. I went back to work on Tuesday and I have a desk job. I'd planned to go back on Monday, but I was too tired.

hi

I work in a desk job as well. I had my surgery on a thursday, spent one night in the hospital9had a repeat barkium in am to check placement). And was home later that friday. I returnend to work on Monday, a bit tired but very capable of doing my job. I felt great and continue to feel better every day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
