Recommended Posts

I think it can be hard to tell - you have to be eating the right foods to feel the perfect fill - you may get nice and full on a small amount of Protein and vegetables (and perhaps a small serve of a carb) and stay full for ages, perfect! But you could still, if you chose eat 6 Cookies for dinner instead!

I think its a mistake to try to find a fill level where you cant eat those 6 Cookies personally because you'll then probably be way too tight to be eating a good variety of healthy solid foods.

As to the actual amount, well there's plenty of advocates of a half cup serving, but there's a gazillion of us around also who have and always HAVE eaten significantly more than that. The amount of food is right if you're losing nice and steadily 1lb or 2lb a week - averaged out. You will still reach plateaus and hold your weight steady for ages and that's when you have to really examine things to see if you need more fill.

It sounds like you are just starting out on the 'fill' regime... sometimes its 3-4 fills to reach your "sweet spot" (proper restriction) and sometimes if you don't have much FAT around your stomach then it takes many more fills...

Currently I have 10.3 cc's in my band... and hav ebeen getting regular fills (every 2 -3 wks) since July... I am still not quite there yet... perhaps this next fill on Mar 3rd??

Good luck, and keep posting and reading

For every bandster there is a new journey, we are all unique.

i am in my sweet spot now. i lost 2-3 lbs per week without trying. it takes effort for me to get my recommended 700 - 800 calories per day.

i could not, no way, no how, eat an entire sandwich. no way. 1/4 of a sandwich does it for me.

I agree that the perfect fill is personal. I prefer a little tighter than some might. I can eat solid foods, but I have to eat slowly and chew-chew-chew. The time of day also controls what things I can eat. The best lesson I learned is to not worry about throwing away food. It is better to toss something that is sticking at the moment than to try adn eat it and irritate your stoma. I have also found that sometimes a particular food went down fine after I cooked it, but reheating it made it tougher and it sticks, so again out it goes. It is better to waste food in the garbage than to waste food in my body.

Keep moving forward,

Lanie

The perfect fill allows you to eat three small meals a day (and I don't mean only 1/2 cup, small in comparison to what you used to eat...) and feel satisfied between those meals. You should not need a bedtime snack because you should still feel satiated from dinner. You should be able to eat enough real food (not liquid, not mushy - mostly dense Proteins, vegetables and fruit) to get 60 grams of Protein a day. If you can't eat that much, or are finding yourself going for soft mushy foods to avoid discomfort, you are probably too tight. Food should still be enjoyable with a lap band, not torture! And you shouldn't be walking around starving. It took me 5 fills to feel like that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
