Life after first fill

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill about a week ago. Before I had my first fill, I could eat just about anything I wanted without any difficulty. The only exception to this was untoasted bread. I had pain when I ate the bread.

After my first fill, I'm not feeling much different. I'm not sure I'm getting the "full signal." I've never felt like I needed to throw up. Think I may have a problem?

Thanks

I'm waiting for my first fill and I could eat anything too! How long ago were you banded just out of curiosity?

A couple of things, firstly there are a number of people on the board here who very rarely, if ever PB (throw up), so it's not a "for sure" that you will with the band if you're careful. The other thing is that for many people the first fill isn't enough for optimum restriction. But you have to go up slowly because many people swell up after a fill, and you don't want to be too tight while you are swollen.

I could eat anything before my my first fill. I had my surgery on 12/6/07. I had my first fill 4 weeks later and felt a little restriction. bread gets stuck on occasion, usually earlier in the day but, I have neer PB'd either. I was ready to get my second fill and I suddenly dropped 5 pounds in 2 days. I am almost 2 months out from my first fill and still can eat most anything and I eat more than 1/2 cup at a time for sure. Since i am losing slowly but somewhat consistantly I am not going to get a second fill. Everyone is different, give your first fill an honest effort though, I thought I needed a fill again for sure and then the weight started dropping. Good luck on your journey.

I have had four fills in the last month and still fill no restriction. I can eat as much as I want, and anything I want. I'm very frustrated that I don't fill any benefits from the surgery yet (3 months ago)

It can take MANY fills before you actually feel a difference. Continue to call your doctor and schedule fills at least weekly until you are at your sweet spot. It took 3 months after surgery before i finally started losing. Hang in there!

I had my first fill at FILL CENTER USA in St Petersburg Fl and the lady was great. She explained so many things to me. I have not had any problems and I am doing really good with my first fill. She did tell me she did not think this one would not be my "sweet spot"

The gave me 3.4 CC she tried 4 CC but I could not drink so she took some out. So we will see.....

I feel like I am on the road to the "Sweet Spot" that is what my wife always says....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
