The joke's on me

Recommended Posts

I've been banded since November and have lost 30 lbs total. I've had my third fill and seems to be working. The one thing I find funny is that I have no trouble nibbling on a cookie or eating a piece of chocolate, but when I eat the goods things like meats and veggies I have a problem with them getting stuck. I can down a whole cookie in two bites and a tiny itty bitty piece of meat chew 32 times and sometimes still have problems. So, the jokes on me because my hot point is sweets. Good luck everyone. :)

That is my biggest complaint with the band. I wish the junk food wasn't the easiest to get down. That has been my biggest downfall. I am sure

I would be at goal now, if chocolate got stuck.

The good thing is pizza doesn't work anymore. I used to eat half a pizza, I wouldn't even try one piece now.

I think its true for nearly every bandster.

Its good and bad. Bad because you still need willpower and I regularly still have days where all I eat is chocolate and Cookies. Good because at least there are SOME things you can still enjoy.

What helps me, and what I have to keep recommitting to is to tell myself I can have those things AFTER I've eaten properly and you know, when I've eaten a curried egg sandwhich on wholegrain bread, funnily enough, I then dont want the chocolate, dont want it for a good 3 hours. Then I start feeling I'd like a little something with my afternoon cuppa so the deal is I eat a peeled apple first. And strangely, the craving goes away.

It really does work to eat properly, but its very very easy to slip into the habit of not bothering to do the work required to eat the good foods and just eat the easy ones instead.

Boy, do I know what you mean. The only way i can deal with my sweet tooth is to buy only sugar free Cookies and chocolates. They taste good and satisfy the craving, but for some reason they don't make me want to eat the whole package. In fact, if you have ever overindulged on Sugar Free Chocolate, you will know the unpleasant side effects of overdose . . .

It's not fair that the sugar free stuff has just as many calories as the ones with sugar.

It's cuz they have more fat in them to make them taste better - I fully agree why can't they make something s/f with out all the fat

My biggest pet peeve is salad dressings - they make them low fat - but add ton's of sugar - I dislike sweet salad dressings - I have made a ranch (from the packet) with low fat butter milk, fat free or lite mayo and it is just as good as the real stuff without all the fat and sugar.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
