How Soon Did The Dr Call You?

Recommended Posts

We attended the seminar this weekend and turned in the packet they needed filled out. At the end of the seminar, they mentioned that they would review the info, call our ins. company and be in touch with us. I wrote on the packet that we are cash pay, so i'm just wondering how long to expect the wait to be before we hear back from the surgeons office.:)

I am going through True Results, and it appeared to me that with cash they can move you through much quicker, because the ins. co's. usually have you end up doing more dieting, and or testing, or what ever, thus prolonging it possibly months. I am in the Atlanta area, who are you going through if you don't mind me asking??

I attended the seminar on the 9th of Feb. (we are also paying by cash), I then went in the following Wed. the 13th, for the diagnostics appointment. I made that appt. after the seminar. After the lab work, which I had from my Endocrinoligist from previous month, I had to get a chest x-ray, because I use to smoke, and have a sleep study before going into surgery. My surgery was scheduled for the 29th of Feb., but the surgery center had overbooked, or something like that, and I was the last on the list for that day, so now it's rescheduled for the 5th of March. Seems like it's been pretty quick for me, just wish it hadn't gotten bumped back a few days. Oh well, it will get here soon enough. Good Luck to You

I would call the office and let them know you are very dedicated and wanting to move onto the next step. Again let them know you are cash pay. I attended my seminar on Jan 29th and was banded Feb 19th. Now granted my Doctor was very impressed with all of the knowledge that I had and research I had done on lap band. I let them know I had been researching while saving and preparing myself mentally for how lap bad would change my life. I am down 18lbs total in 3 weeks. 8lbs in the 2 weeks pre surgery and 10 lbs the past week after surgery. They said they don't usually move that quickly but being a cash pay does have some perks.

I was self-pay also. I attended the seminar on a Sunday in late August. I heard back from the doctor the following Monday (eight days later). I had surgery on October 26th. So the whole process took about two months.

Self-pay here, too....attended seminar on Feb 1, scheduled for surgery Mar 18!

I agree, call and let them know you are very serious and want to move forward as quickly as possible. That's what I did....got a call the next day with appointments for all of the prep work!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
