Swelling In Port Area - 2 and Half Months Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hey gang-

I am chugging along. . .need to get another fill. I am eating like I used to:-)

I have a bulge that is tender at my port. Feels like a golf ball. I assume it is the remaining swelling. Is this normal? I have read of people being able to physically feel their ports but I don't think that's what this. . .

Any insight?

I went for a fill yesterday and did not get one because of pain near my port. The doctor sent me for a ct scan. They said it was not right to have so much pain. I am waiting for the test results this morning. Do you have any pain?

Please let me know what they tell you. I was feeling really good. Most of my pain was completely gone. But just the last week, I have been having pain around my port area. It comes and goes. This morning I am really feeling it more. I was banded on Jan 24, 2008. I am scheduled for my first fill on Mar 6th.

Does anyone have any advise. I am thinking about calling my doctor today.

I was recently banded on Feb 13th and have been concerned about my port area as well. When I am standing up, I can feel alot of swelling around the port (feels like a boiled egg under my skin) but it is not painful. I asked my Dr. and he said it is normal. He said sometimes it can take 2-3 months for the swelling to go down??? How long have you been banded.

My port area HURTS. I was banded Jan 24, 2008.. I called my doctor and asked him if I need to be concerned. They asked if I had any fever around the port area or if it was red. Which I do not. I told my doctor I was feeling really good with little if any discomfort. But then this past week I have started to fill pain again. I was told to watch for fever or redness. But he thought maybe I have been doing to much. Example lifting to much and have pulled the muscle around where the staples are for my port.

Has anyone else gone through this. I am going to keep a close eye on it.

My port is my largest incision. Mine is to the left of my belly button about 4 inches. After my surgery about 3 weeks I was feeling little pain. But this last couple of days it has started to hurt again. I think I just did to much I thought I was all ok. I am going to take it easy for the next couple of days and see if it helps. Sure hope so.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
