Stepping Forward

Hello Everyone!

I have finally decided to get my life back on track. I spoke to my doctor last Thursday about weight loss surgery and to my amazement she agreed it would be a good thing for me.

I am scheduled to attend an informational session on the 17th. I am truly looking forward to it. By the grace of God I have United Health Care and it will pay for my surgery. I am sure I will feel so much better once I lose some of this 223 lbs off of this 4ft 11 body. (smile)

I received my package today and boy do they ask a lot of questions. Well, since this will be one of my favorite sites, I wanted to stop in and introduce myself.

Isn't this a great site? I remember when I found it and sighed with relief that there are so many wonderful people willing to share their stories. I hope you find your answers and friends as easily as I have.

Hi Fed Cop:

Welcome. Feel free to ask questions. I've been banded for 7 months and have been doing great!

I love my band!

Thank you so much for the welcome! Yes, this really is an excellent site because you're getting information from those that have experience what you're about to go through. Did you take 2 weeks off from work?

Hi and welcome to LBT! We are definitely glad that you found us.

I was laid off from my job 2 weeks prior to my surgery. But, had I not been, I believe one week off of work would have been plenty. It all depends on the person.

Let us know if you have any questions, and keep us posted on how things are going.

I took two weeks off from work but I combined my surgery with a two-week by the pool vacation. I could have returned to work after a few days, but it wouldn't have been as much fun!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
