Is this a normal sensation?

Recommended Posts

I have been having a sort of numb surface pain just above my belly button. It is no where near any of my incisions, and it is difficult to describe. I am a little over 2 weeks post op and this started a week post op. It doesnt quite feel like a bruise, nor is it completely numb. When i run my fingers across my stomach there is decreased sensation in comparison to the rest of my stomach, but at the same time it hurts, not exactly like a bruise but a stinging like pain. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas?

Well, I don't know exactly what you mean...I had numbness at my port sight, but that was near an incision. It stayed for about 3 months and is just going away.

not to sound silly...but did they use your belly button as a point of entry. they did on me and duh...i didnt know till about the 5th day!!! go figure - i was so focused on the BIG points of entry i never paid attention to my BB.

Best of Luck.

I'm not sure if it is the same with lap-band surgery but when I had orthroscopic surgery on my knee they hit some surface nerves. I still have a referred sensation when I touch certain places around the incision sites. Not really a big deal. You'll get used to it.

This may or may not be related but I just wanted to share.

I had basal cell carcinoma, a small cancerous mole on the side of my nose. It was so small, it was not even noticable. I had surgery to repair it, only minor surface surgery, and afterwards I was numb for months on the side of my nose. As feeling came back, it just felt different.

The doctor said it can happen, even if you are only having a very minor procedure done. Abdominal surgery isnt minor so I assume it may be along the same line.
