Oh my gosh- I was laying in bed last night thinking WHY am I so ITCHY - I had taken a bath earlier - and thought that was it --- but maybe it IS this diet/thing - Hmmmmm.... I mean - it was bad - the itchiness - kinda kept me awake off and on all night.

I have also been experiencing dry skin for the first time. It is better than it was. I was real itchy all over my legs and arms. I normally have oily skin, and now I have to put lotion on my face.

Have your thryoid hormone level checked. I get very dry alligator skin from an underperforming thryoid. I didn't know I had this problem until after loosing 30 pounds with my band. So ladies... get it checked.

Often, people who are dieting are trying to cut out too much fat. You need fat to make your body function properly. Stay away from saturated and hydrogentated fats, but incorporate good poly- and mono-unsaturated fats in your diet. A little olive or flax seed oil is great. Also, fish, walnuts, peanuts, avocados, etc. are all good sources of healthy fat. You will definately see a difference in your skin.

I actually had this conversation with another of my lapband friends because we are both itchy and dry. I agree you have to make sure you get some fat. She talked to our doctor and he said it is part of the hormonal changes going on due to the weight loss (plus she is around menopause age so that doesn't help, I am not however but am still really itchy!). I bought this bath salt made by Aveeno and it is working wonderfully. If you can't find that, I saw some made by Calgon and Vasolene (Sp?) that works good too. Be careful getting out of the tub though.....slippery

I appreciate the honesty :) In my case, the mistake I did that leading to pbing (my family actually was fearful I was having a heart attach- that's how awful it is for me) took small sips at the begining out of BAD habit and of course without thinking. It was so bad... that I don't even allow myself to have a glass/cup at the table during meal time. When out with friends at a public venue... I have the wait staff completely remove my glass when my meal arrives. You should see how crazy they look at me.

I'm going to chime in here and second the getting your thyroid checked. Dry skin is a symptom of hypothyroidism, something that I didn't know I had until 3 months after my surgery (thankfully my Dr. has my labs done every 3 months for the first year). My endocrinologist appointment is tomorrow, so I haven't started medication yet, but getting your thyroid/hormone levels normalized can help out all kinds of things like your energy levels, and even weight loss. I'd love to have more energy and lose weight easier.

If you haven't had your labwork done in a while, you might want to get it checked.

use a butter cream lotion... I use the basin products- it takes the itchy away and has a soft scent.

I agree with this. I have been using Burt's Bees body butter. They changed their formulation so I'll have to find a new one. But my skin is really soft. It's always been a little dry and it was more so once I started dieting. The body butter has made an amazing difference.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
