I am getting banded this Tuesday and my only worry is that my Liver will be too fatty for the Dr. to perform the band. I don't know why, I mean my last liver enzyme test came back fine but when I went to see my surgeon in my last visit before my surgery he told me I went up in weight but I did lose 3 lbs on the slim fast 2 week diet I did until tonight. Tomorrow I am Clear Liquids and then surgery Tuesday. Has anyone had this problem?

My doctor doesn't require a preop diet, I hope my liver is healthy enough for surgery.

Billie, I think the rule of thumb is that if you are able to lose like 5% of your weight in the few weeks before your surgery that is best, however, some Dr's don't require a preop diet before hand, I think you've done excellent so far, I wouldn't stress too much. Good luck on Tuesday... Walk walk walk as soon as you can.

Not long before my surgery, about 3 months---my PCP put me onto meds for my high cholesterol, and when we did my pre op blood work about 2 weeks before, my liver enzymes were off the chart high! It was caused by the cholesterol meds.

The Dr. spoke with my surgeon, and of course we stopped the drugs immediately but.....still was not sure until the day of surgery if it would be ok! Everyone kept assuring me it would be---but it is my nature to worry anyway!!!

In the end, they had come down enough for the surgery. My pre op diet was not super strict. I was to have low to no fat, and high protein---lean Protein. When he did my surgery he said my liver looked great--that he could tell I followed the pre op, and I had!

I understand your fears. If your #'s all look good, I would imagine you will be good to go. I know saying that will probably not help a bit---but just know you are not the only one who worried about it!!!

Hang in there Billie----you'll be in band land soon!!! Welcome to LBT!

Kat

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
