hey everyone

I finally had my surgery five days ago. I've already lost 14 lb. You think i would be happy right....BUT IM NOT. For some reason I regret having surgery I'm soooooooooo depressed :blushing::frown::blushing::blushing: and mad at myself. I fought so much to get the surgery done and now i hate myself for going through with it. I feel like why do this to myself when i could have probable lost the weight by myself . Is this a normal feeling??? I need all the support I can get. Thanks

I had GB in 2001 and lost 110 pounds. Started drinking Pepsi once in awhile and then more and more. Soon I was addicted and buying Pepsi by the case. I stretched out my stomach and gained back 60 pounds. Just had LB on 2-18 and I will NEVER have soda. It is the start of your downfall in weight loss. Why go thru all of this only to gain it back? Soda is NOT worth it.

Hey There, I Felt The Same Way For About 2wks,i Was Banded On 2-13-08. Slowly Coming Around. I Did Talk To My Doc O.k. Cryed To The Doc. He Took A Lil Fluid Out Till I'm Mentaly Ready For More. He Also Said If Worse Comes To Worse,he Can Take All The Fluid Out And It Would Be Like Not Really Having A Banded.

My doc says I can drink diet sodas as long as they don't cause too much discomfort (I haven't had a problem with them yet.) He just recommends to pour it over ice and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking. So far so good. Of course he doesn't want me drinking regular sodas, but I have found some diet ones that I like alot...Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet A&W Root Beer, and Diet Sprite (all caffeine free.)

I have not had a soda since three weeks before my surgery, which was August 27, 2007. I have not craved any sodas since, but I have had a craving for a root beer float and I then think I got my lapband for a reason--to lose the weight.

I have never had a taste for coffee or tea. Tea, to me, tastes like they drug a bunch of old brown, post-raked leaves through Water. (Of course, I hate skim milk--all skim milk tastes like to me like they drug a cow through water.)

Since I have stopped drinking sodas, I have not had many headaches. I still get them because I have a blind eye, and my good eye tries to compensate.

Also, I have heard drinking sodas might cause the pouch to expand, and I didn't pay all that money for surgery to screw things up like that.

I drink tons of soda and coffee. No worries. Only diet soda though and almost always out of a fountain soda (not cans or bottles) so that it loses some of the fizzle.

I sooo agree with Gwenn, I think they tell us no because of the additions and soda, weather it is diet or not contains allot of salt too. I was never a soda drinker but my daughter certainly was/is. She had the gastric bypass 2 1/2 almost 3 years ago come April and drinks the soda still. I wish she wouldn't but she does. She has kept the weight off thankfully and has had a baby girl this past December too boot. She's never smoked or drank alchohol or taken drugs so I guess the soda is a "better" addiction? For lack of better verbage. I just think that if you can avoid the soda you really should. It won't help you lose weight by any means and if you can stop drinking it then kudos to you!! One more hurdle accomplished! Good luck to all of our soda drinking fellow lapbanders to be able to stop their soda addiction! Dianne

I don't drink soda or beer. Occasionally I will have a sip or two of my husband's soda- but I never order it or drink more than a sip. I probably could, but since I have pretty much quit it, why start back up when it's just wasted calories? Now - beer-- I miss beer- alot. I have had a few over the last 6 months since my surgery - and usually it ends up making my tummy not feel to good. I try to stick to mixed drinks if I am drinking. Oh - but I do miss my beer..... :o

OK, So I can give up soda after I am banded, but I heard that caffeine is also a no-no. Is this only for the pre-op diet or will I have to give up coffee too?

I have never heard no caffeine. I drink coffee everyday, and that ain't gonna change!

hey everyone

I finally had my surgery five days ago. I've already lost 14 lb. You think i would be happy right....BUT IM NOT. For some reason I regret having surgery I'm soooooooooo depressed :cool2::frown::tt2::mad: and mad at myself. I fought so much to get the surgery done and now i hate myself for going through with it. I totally went through these same feelings...I was very depressed, but I have made it through, and all for the better. For me, the depression came because my love affair with food was over. This is a time for grieving for you. Go with it....think a lot about it, because that will help you get to the answers about why food always won before. I swear, you will be better, but it took MONTHS for me. I'm 7 months post-op, and I'm so glad I had this done way before the holidays. I deal so much better with the reduced capacity now.... I eat just about anything I want, but it's more like "tasting." For the longest time, I would fill a plate that there was no way in hell I could finish, but man I would try like crazy! Now I don't have that overwhelming desire to FEED myself like I did before. It's really hard to explain, but you'll get there. Best of luck!

I was told NO CARBONATION, so it's never for me. I never even tried and I've been banded over a year. I did however have three sips of champagne on New Year's Eve. BIG MISTAKE. I thought I was going to die. I burped for a good two hours afterward, and my tummy hurt like hell. GREAT way to ring in the New Year..... Never again.

I was told No soda no beer omg. Well It will be ok. For me the giving up beer for the carbination is and has been the worst. I gave them all up back in oct 08 altough I just got banded on Dec 31 08 I had to give it up in order to make this happen for me. Well I believe in the long run it will be all worth it.

I have not had a soda since being banded, but I did have a beer awhile ago, from a pitcher and I let the foam die down. It didn't bother me to my surprise. I felt obligated to drink it b/c someone bought it for me. It was fine. But I'm not a beer drinker and don't want to start being a soda drinker, so it will be a rare occurrence. We celebrated something at work with champagne yesterday and I had a sip but it was so fizzy I worried about what it might do.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
