Soda..sometimes or NEVER???

Recommended Posts

For the most part I don't miss the carbonation. I was never a big soda drinker anyway. But I did love my beer. I was a Shiner Bock junkie. Ha! I do great most of the time. My husband and adult sons drink it around me all the time, but I do okay. The only time I have a problem is in the summer, on a really hot day, when I'm sweaty and parched and someone pulls a long neck out of a cooler. The ice is sliding down the side, and I just groan.

I really hate to post this, but I met a couple who had bi-pass, and the husband drank beer like there was no tomorrow. He said beer was his replacement behavior for eating. He looked great too! But he was bi-pass- maybe there is a difference.

I am SURE an occational beer or pop would not do any harm. But I am not a doc.

I know if the future when healing is all done, I will have the occational beer. Maybe one or two a month.

To my shame, I have returned to being the Pepsi addict I was before my surgery (7/2007). I manged to stay away from sodas for over a year post-op, but like alcohol, one drink rekindled my addiction. I drink about a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi a day. I don't have any problems with the carbonation (and I CHUG, not sip), but all those calories are a major contributor to my losing post-op battles. Old habits are hard to break! :cursing:

I've been a "bandita" for almost a year, and I drink sodas, although not with the frequency I once did, and I've not experienced a problem with drinking it. However, I think my surgeon would probably be upset with me if he knew! I do drink a lot of coffee though. Gotta get my caffeine somewhere!

Hi Everyone.

I had my lap band done 16 months ago and am down 120 lbs. I was addicted to my vanilla Cokes everyday from Sonic, along with a Cheeseburger, but that's a different story. For a year after surgery I didn't have any Cokes. The first one I had, thought I was having a heart attack. The pain was so severe. I don't really miss Soda's unless I'm traveling. Water in the car just isn't the same. I've learned that if you get a Coke Slushee those don't hurt at all. All the moving around in the machine gets rid of the bubbles. Just be careful. Slushee's don't come in diet.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
