Anyone used a Dr. in The Woodlands, Texas area??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been banded by a Dr. in the Conroe, The Woodlands, Bryan or College Station areas of Texas? I'll be self pay and would like any info you will share. I posted this in the Texas area also but had little response so I'm hoping the local area people will read and respond. Thanks!

I used Dr. Felts from LapBand solutions near the medical complex in houston. I was also a self pay. He is wonderful and so is the facility. Here is the web address for you. I highly recommend them to anyone. My friend went with me and when she was in having her surgery they found a cyst. They did not charge her for anything and refunded her money to her. Dr. Felts is amazing and very personable.

My friend used Dr. Spivak for gastric bypass, and if I hadn't found Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, I would have used him, too.

I was banded by Spiegel in Houston (I live in Conroe) I know just about everybody in my OBGYNs office in The Woodlands have been banded and they raved about Collier - I think he is in The Woodlands or Conroe.

Dr. Collier is really growing in popularity around here, but i went with dr. spivak in houston. i live just north of conroe, so it is a bit of a drive for me, but i just love the man...and his staff rocks too!! you could not go wrong with either of these doctors. ((spivak has been around the lapband community longer, and his self pay fee is down to 12k or so))

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
