Staying in Hospital

Recommended Posts

I had to stay and was so glad. there was no way I could have gone home. I had surgery at 9 a.m tues and went home at 8 pm Wednesday. Had to be seen by the hospitalist and get repeat EKG for low heart rate. I was so doped up, it was no wonder. Good luck!!

My surgeon says if you are feeling well and they don't see any issues they will let you go home the same day... But if you want to stay over night he always requests that in his preauth so it is covered.

My surgery is this coming Wednesday (2/27). I will be staying overnight and released the next morning. My surgeon's office requires an overnight stay in the hospital.

Hi everyone. Happy Saturday!:) Did anyone have to stay the night after their Lap Band surgery? My Dr said he makes all his WLS patients stay at least 1 night and 2 if GB.

Just curious to why??? If you did stay, what did they make you do or not do that couldn't be done at home? TIA

I am also curious about this. I am waiting for my surgery date but there has been no mention on how long I will be in the hospital.

I, too, have to stay the night in the hospital, which I'm not thrilled about. Been there and done that with mixed reviews. It sounds like you were all quite nauseous. Silly as it may sound, this is my biggest worry. I can handle pain, don't do well with pain meds anyway, but I know you aren't suppose to vomit so of course I will totally paranoid and while I can handle nausea (been there and done that, too with gall bladder disease) I know I will be having a hard mental time with the worry. Was it really bad? Did any of you vomit, and if so, did you cause any problems to yourself?

I did NOT get sick, as soon as I was lucid enough to speak I told the nurse I felt sick, they shoved something in my IV and that was all she wrote. Tell them ahead of time you have nausea following anesthesia. They will keep you well. Don't wait till you start feeling sick, let them know you get sick with surgery and if you get sick with pain meds (like I do) ask them to medicate you for nausea PRIOR to administering pain meds.

Thanks minpinmon, I appreciate the advice and your good experience. I actually don't usually feel nausea from anesthesia (only one out of 4 times, and I was sick going in with a bad gall bladder)I'm just scared that I WILL because this is surgery on my actual stomach. Glad to know there are good drugs for it

Hi - Im in Michigan and have BCBS insurance and am currently awaiting approval. From what the Doc's tell me - everything should be fine with that. My question is- my Doc says that his LB patients are outpatient - but Id rather stay. Can I ask him if I can or will they not let you do that? Thanks!

I had my surgery done Monday 2-25-08 at 7:00 am. I was scheduled for same day surgery but my Dr. decided I should stay over night to be monitored thru the night. He said he had a problem with heavy bleeding thru out my procedure and wanted to be cautios. In recovery I started bleeding again at three wound sites a couple of times. All in all it was probably better because the Nurses waited on me hand and foot.

One suggestion is to get up and walk as soon as you are able. I have a high tolerance for pain so I have not used any of my pain meds yet at 3 days post op.

Hi all! I have had a lot of nausea with previous anesthesia, so thanks for the advice to tell them ahead of time. I will sure remember to do that. And as for the pain, I say "The more drugs, the better!!" I am a terrible sissy when it comes to pain. LOL So I am glad my insurance requires me to stay over night! Wonder if they would let me stay the whole week and wait on me hand and foot?!

I had a 4:00pm surgery and my doctor gave me the option. I declined, but my wife reminded me to "see how I feel" after the surgery. Needless to say, I left the hospital at 9:30 pm that night, and if it was up to me, I would of left an hour earlier (they required minimum of 4 hours post-op stay). Columbia Hospital in NYC...

I had Surgery at 9:00 am and was discharged at 2:00 that afternoon. It was optional if I wanted to stay, but like the nurse told me, "I can sleep at home in my own bed".

I had surgery at 10am and was home by 1:30pm. I did sleep in the recliner for about 4 nights though. But it wasn't too bad at all!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
