March Bandsters Pre-Op diet?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have surgery 3/19. My doctors office doesnt require a pre-op diet, but I wanted to start one, because I think it might be easier for me to transition. Is ther anyone out there who has to do one, and if so what do you have to do?

Well.....................

I am being banded on March 7. My doc said that this Friday, Saturday and Sunday he wants me on a low fat diet and then starting Monday a liquid diet and of coarse nothing to eat or drink after midnight on Thursday.

Friday is my birthday so I am sure we are going to dinner....might have to cheat a little on the low fat thing. I know, not a good start to my new life. I will probably guilt myself into eating right. :) However, I am definately not passing on the drinks. :glare:

I'm going to NYU for mine, where the standard requirement is a two week liquid diet pre-op. For me, they recommended 6 cans a day of Optima Slimfast, allowing sugar-free drinks, sugar-free ice pops, sugar-free puddings. The idea is to aim for about 1000 cals a day, and to keep Protein intake above 50 gm.

If you're going with the surgery, I'd highly recommend WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY FOR DUMMIES - it's a fantastic book, and has loads of information about all aspects of this process.

I was put on Optifast since 2/19, and I am scheduled for March 4th. The day before nothing after midnight.

I get tired of Optifast, so I also drink slimfast for dinner every night. It helps!!!

Doctors usually require some preop diet, to shrink your liver so they don't have to touch it during surgery, which is a plus for me....

Good luck!

I'm scheduled for 3/18. 2 weeks prior I have to give up liquer. 12 days prior I am to start my "fast" which is 2 slim fast shakes and a lean cuisene a day. I can also have "green" veggies.....:blushing: but NO COFFEE:crying:

So freaked out, but keep reminding myself that this is what I want.

I am goign to NYU to have my surgery and will be doing a 1000 calorie liquid/high Protein diet for 2 weeks before surgery. I start on March 10th since my surgery is on the 24th. I have done medifast in the past and have some of those shakes. When those are finished I will do Slimfast Optima. They also give in for about a veggies Soup you area llowed 2 cups a day. I know I will also supplement with that during the 2 weeks.

I haven't got my pre-op testing day lined up yet but if they try to do it one week out, I've still got time. That would be a blessing for me if its only the 1 week of Optifast type diet instead of 2. Good luck to all!

thanks everyone for the info. I have given up soda so far and it's been about a week. I'm on a search for some Protein Drinks so I'm gonna check out the ones you all are taking to see which one is best for me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
