WOW at the cost

Recommended Posts

I got my statement from my insurance company the other day and I thought that I would share the cost info that I got!

This is a lot more expensive than what I thought it would be!

According to my statement the total amount charged for my surgery..drugs and all $32,000.00!!!!!!! Isn't that alot??!!!

I couldnt believe it!!! My portion  $1100.00!!! Now that number is WAY less than what I was told so that part I am totally happy about

It always makes me feel good to see stuff like that. I was banded 2/11 and actually have been looking forward to getting my claim information! I know I'm responsible for $1000.

I saw something similar. The cash price at my doc was something like 14K. The insurance statement was close to 40K. The hospital REALLY cranked up the fees once they knew it was a third-party-pay scenario

I was banded June 21, 2007 and still haven't gotten a bill for my $1000 deductible portion...

Wonder who I should call? I have the $1000 sitting on my flexible spending account card, if I don't use it by March 15, I lose it.

Hi All;

My Co Pay to my Doctor was $236.00 and "0" to the Hospital.

A friend of mine was self pay to the same doctor/Hospital and her cost was $14,900.00. My cost to the ins. was $29,000.00. Of course I had to stay over nite due to 2 hernia repairs.

Still rather strange..............and my insurence is balking at paying for the fills. Call it "Experimental Treatment". Now go figure....why have the surgery if you cant have the fills???

We are fighting them. They should have investigated the whole deal before hand. Right?

Connie:rolleyes2:

That's crazy....insurance companies are so screwy!! Did they think the fills were gonna be done for free???

Oh no...you gotta learn how to self fill...at home!!!!!!:lol::lol:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
