scales for the big guys

Recommended Posts

I'm starting the "program" with a counselor and either I do it without the band, or I work on getting the band sometime in the near future (8-10 months).

First I have to work on weight management plan.

First thing I need is a good weight scale for the "full figured" dieter. Something that will handle 350#, not usually found at wal-mart.

Any suggestions about what and where I can find one?

Thanks,

Did you actually check Walmart?

I thought the same thing about having to look else where for a scale. I had to have a scale that read up 400 lbs. I went to Walmart and found that they actually had 4 differant brand names that had a 400 lb range. They were in the section selling bathroom towel racks, soap dishes etc. I bought the "Taylor Lithium" model and have no regrets. It was the mid priced model. I was concerned that it was a glass scale. I hadn't paid attention in the store. I was worried at 390+ lbs I would break the scale. Down 30+ lbs and the scale hasn't shattered yet.

Every time I go for a weigh in at the Surgeons office I weigh myself at home wearing everything I plan on wearing to the Doctors office. I found that my scale at home is reading exactly the same as the Doctors.

Hey CampinHappy,

I bought a set at Wally World a couple week's ago that are the best. They are "HealthOmeter" brand with extra large 1.5" color display.

Professional Body Fat Monitoring scale.

Measures Body Fat

Calculates Hydration (Body Water) Level

Tracks Change In Weight

Monitors Progress To Goal

Thats everything it says on the box, I just happen to still have it. It also has four "personal settings" for four different people. I'm #2 so I just push #2 first thing in the morning and it tells me how tall I am, blinks a couple times and I get on and "it lie's to me!"

It remembers everything for you, $40 well spent in my book. I also liked the fact it tells you how Hydrated you are just after surgery. You do have to weigh bare footed for the magic to work. Hope this helped, Good luck. Steve

I was banded on 2-4-08 and I am losing weight, but this week I gain one pound.....I know it not much, but I want to continue to lose and not gain. I have increased my time on the trendmill. I am averaging 45 minues on the t-mill. So did anyone else gain weight...during the first couple weeks.

i also use a balance beam type like the dr's offices used to have (before digital). i always weigh first thing in the morning after i get up. only thing i do first is pee. i always weigh with no clothes, so i dont have to facor in anything, no food either. i do not pay attention to the weight loss center's scale. too many varieables. plus, i track from day os surgery, they go by first visit. i had gained since first visit. i consider their scale to be for THEIR records only.

Loprofyl, Monday morning I weighed myself at home before surgery and again when I returned fron the hospital, I gianed 6 pounds. I know it is not because of what I ate. Monday I had one full liquid meal for dinner. Tuesday I only had one full liquid meal for brakfast. Each meal consisted of broth, Jello, fruit juice and Iced Tea. I think my fluctuations with weight are more about Fluid retention in lieu of what I am eating,

I hear you Jack. For the last year I've weighed myself on a freight scale at work.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
