What's up with B12?

Recommended Posts

I don't know very much about it, but I know that it helps support a good metabolism. About a hundred years ago, when I was on a Lindora program (ketosis diet), they gave me daily shots of B12 to help my metabolism. I lost 40 pounds in 2 months. Obviously, I didn't keep it off. Anyway, I digress. . .

A quick google search will give you a better idea.

I was on a ketosis diet too about 30 years ago. 600 calories a day, if you can believe that. Every morning I went and had my ketones checked at the doctor and had a small B-12 shot. I gotta say, even taking in only 600 calories, I felt FANTASTIC for the 5 months I was on it, never shakey, never weak. Never got sick and felt like a million bucks. Elixer of the Gods! But if you don't NEED B-12, it'll be the same as shooting Water into your body. You'll only react if you have a deficiency that it replaces.

They often over prescribe b-12 to make sure you have proper liver funciton and unlike Vit A or E you wont become toxic if you have to much. B-12 if your body is at peak with it is Water... you body wont absorb what you don't need.

I am on tripled the dose of a normal person cause of some medications I had when I was younger, even though its been 9-10 years I can STILL have after affects to my liver. I will be on B-12 for the rest of my life cause of the long term affects of that medication.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
