Kendra,

Wow, your upbeat attitude is serving you well. Seems like all the boot kicking is working on the side effects, too!

I'm feeling better every day that passes and I still have two weeks before the next round. I'm drinking Chinese herbs in my tea three times a day, too.

I'm down to 191 pounds -- 37 lost and 21 to go! I really need to "shop" in my closet again but I haven't had time and my clothes are really bagging on me. :tongue_smilie:

Thanks for the kicks!

That's great news, Kendra! Wow, only 21 lbs to go? No wonder you look so good in your photo! Glad you're feeling well. All that kickin' and stompin' from everyone must be doing the job. Good luck with the next round.

Hi Kendra,

I'm from the August 2007 bandster group and I cannot believe I did not discover this thread earlier.

I'm glad to hear that all is going well so far. I live in the Virgin Islands -- and I just want you to know that when that dumb tumor passes through the Caribbean, I'm going to kick it all the way to the South Pole!!!!

Lots of big hugs to you :):thumbup:!

Hey Kendra, I read that 1000 milligrams of ginseng/day (or more) can help cancer patients with increased energy, vitality, and improvement in emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being. I got this from an e-newsletter I receive regularly. I highly recommend it. It's called Independent news on natural health, nutrition and more and you can subscribe for free. I get lotsa good stuff for health off of there. The other one I like is Natural Health Information Articles and Health Newsletter by Dr. Joseph Mercola

Okay, that was weird. The above I had actually typed (without spaces) www. natural news . com and www. mercola . com . I don't know why it came up with those big long sentences. It did that automatically.

I saw the doctor today, two weeks after my first round of chemo. I had a chest x-ray on Tuesday and she came in beaming with the results -- no visible signs of cancer in my lungs! It's working! Not only that, my cervix looks normal and the tumor in my uterus continues to shrink. We actually started discussing what we're going to do when I first the next two rounds of chemo. I realize that cancer can go away and come back but this is the best possible step in the right direction!

After we shared a few tears of happiness, we shared a good laugh. There has been some disagreement about whether I have a carcinoma (MD Anderson's opinion) or a mixed carcinoma/sarcoma (Austin's opinion.) So my doctor says, "Well, I don't care if it's named George or Herman, the chemo is working!" So I commented that I think I'll name it George because I sure hate him enough and that makes it easy to visualize kicking the crap out of it. My doctor and nurse burst into laughter while we made a few more jokes at George's expense. Finally, I said, "Let's get rid of both Georges in 2008!" bigsmile.gif

Thanks, Linda! I think that there's some ginseng in the Chinese herbs that my acupuncturist gave me. I take it them in tea three times a day.

Now that is excellent news Kendra and worth the tears. My dad was called George but he was a good man, kind and brought joy to the people around him. The other George needs a few kicks up the butt, so happy to keep kicking in that case !! :w00t: This has come about because of your inner strength and positive thoughts so keep it up. You can see how much support you have here as well... lots to be said for the power of thinking. Woohoo !! :tongue2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
